Umm... Repro as promised..
M20 reprocesseed on my desktop with properly calibrated monitor as opposed to the previous one from the laptop... Much much nicer I think...

Don't you just love dew, good to see M45 again.
That second M20 looks much better with rich colours in the starfield, nice one Alex.

Very nice work Alex. Great to see that you have been getting some clear skies recently. :)
The reprocessed M20 is much better. Less saturated. Still a very nice image. ;) M45 still turned out nicely.
What type of field flattener have you decided to get?

Still haven't decided on a flattener Matty, I'm considering the WO 0.8x reducer/flattener v3 or the Televue RDF2008 0.8x flattener... One of the two...

the m20 is the pick of the bunch, i always find these objects in a crowded starfield difficult, you have some nice star colors showing through to give it character
must have been up early for m45, it hasnt hit the meridian before its light.

Nice work Alex.
Once those clouds cleared it was glorious watching the Summer constellations rising. Not knowing which object to turn the camera to.

Gaud Alex, WHAT are you doing :eyepop:. That 1st M20 had flourescent pink as the only colour :scared:. The repro save yr ass..............a bit, but still looks a little washed out :poke::D.

JJJ... It was hard to decide what to shoot.... M45 was a good choice though I think.. seeing as I've never imaged it too..
Fred : The field is definitely not as tight as you would like (or me for that matter!!) The first M20 was atrocious, Im actually embarrassed now that I posted it.. However I do think I came back!
Washed out you say? Any tips on how to fix it up?

Thanks Les.. Yea the M45 shot is growing on me actually... I still think I can do a better job of processing it... if we get some clouds during the week I'll have another go at it!

Poor Alex.
No-one likes his psychodelic rendition of m20.
I blame the processing on too many rumbos eh mate.

yep between a bottle of rum, no sleep and my extremely dim laptop screen, the first m20 was horrible. I should have checked it on my desktop first.. I think the second is much much better. Maybe even one of my best shots to date.. Hard to say.. But i like it!

M45 is outstanding, the nebulosity is very faint and you have captured it well.

Thanks Mate... I have had a few goes at M45 before using shorter, unguided exposures, and never managed to get the nebulosity... This time around I managed to get quite a bit of it, although before the season is over I can guarantee I'll revisit this one with 10~15min exposures..

Really like M45 too. Good job
I think we were all a bit past our best by this hour of the morning Alex, but glad we stayed up. The fog was getting pretty treacherous towards the end, so I wouldn't go too hard on yourself re dew.
Well done on both of these! M45 is my pick too.

Nice work Alex considering the conditions and the rum.
The field of view with the 90 is great. Sober up and take some more without the fog.

Thanks Marc, Rob and Doug..
Rob - Yes I was well past my best.. I had to close one eye to be able to read the count down timer in MaximDL during the M45 exposures.. I was so messy I couldn't read with both eyes open!! hahaha
Doug - Next time, No bottle of rum! And hopefully no messy fog/dew either. I'm making some dew heaters right now, Hopefully they will be up and running before next month!! ASTROFEST!!! :D
Cheers.

Nice images Alex
set up bit different to what your use to
How do you find the tracking on HEQ5 compared to your 6
Cheers

Martin - PM sent...
Trevor - Yeah mate, it sure is very different to what im used to.. however its proving to be quite enjoyable thus far! :) This HEQ5 that I'm using had recently been serviced, and from what I understand, cleaned, tuned and regreased.. Overall I've had more success with this mount than I had with my EQ6.. that being said, I'm working at a MUCH lower focal length, and using very different cameras etc...
I never got my guiding spot on with the EQ6, Largely because my computer didnt like the GPUSB/DBK31/QHY8 all running at once.. I dont know what the problem was exactly, but there was a conflict somewhere.. Now with the QHY5 and the Orion SS Pro I have absolutely no hardware or software problems.. simply focus the guider, take an exposure, pick one of the MANY guide stars on the screen, click guide and start imaging.. Its never been so simple!
