It was a little cloudy in the afternoon but as it cleared in the early evening the moon peeked out of ever enlarging sucker holes presenting the perfect opportunity to capture Earth Shine.:)
What a fantastic night it was. Thanks again Peter for opening up your Observatory to us.

Well done Jeanette,

It really is quite amazing what a good job reflected light does in illuminating the Moon.

It's the terminator that fascinates me the most really. Lot's of interesting crinkly bits.:)

Hi Jeanette, last year I was involved in recording data on a grazing occultation of Antares. It really was most interesting watching Antares disappear and reappear behind the mountain peaks and craters along the Luna limb.

With the naked eye the limb looks so clean, sort of featureless but to see a star grazing it underlined how rugged the topography is which we clearly see when we observe near the terminator as you have mentioned.

Regards
Trevor

Very nice Jeanette!

I assume this was a piggybacked dSLR image using a telephoto lens? What exposure did you use?

Cheers,
Stephen

Stephen, I used the canon 20d at prime focus of my 8".
I cropped and applied a clarify filter using Paint Shop Pro.
It was a 2 second exposure @iso 100 I think. have to check the exif info to be sure.
Thanks for looking everyone. I thoroughly enjoyed taking these shots, I've never tried for earthshine before.

Cool Jeanette! I've never seen one of these done - amazing how much "dark" detail is there.

Looks like the moon is shooting through space on the wings of a zeta beam!

Great image jjj.
