Explain This Event ?

Last night whilst observing at Menindee NSW I looked up at the Milky Way all the way from eastern to the western horizon, Spectacular as it was but it was curved , Like a banana.

Now to aviod embarrasment i didnt say a thing and i let it slide until it got the better of me and i kept looking at, Then I turned my body around and wow it was bent the other way.

Then we all looked at it with amazment.

The time was about 11.30 there abouts and was diectly overhead then after midnight the show was over it was back to its old glorious self and straight.

Any thoughts

Yep Trevor observing with me saw it as well.
We were both lost in this optical illusion.

changing directions inverts how it appears especially when direct overhead

As said obviously too many beers

If it looks curved, try lying down on your back (or banana chair) or get a big straight edge (1m ruler) and try your eye...
