Took the opportunity last night to do some testing of some new features in my software and while my DSLR and Canon 300mm L lense was aimed in the same direction as Tarantula riding piggyback on top of the Tak I thought it a waist of photons if I did not image with the SBIG at the same time. Because of the moon I decided to image though an Astrodon 6nm Ha filter.

I was very pleased with the outcome so decided to add in some color from an image I took of the Tarantula through the same scope earlier in the year.

Its a very quickand dirty processing job and a little noisy still but I am pleased with the detail. Its a stack of 23 x 3 minute exposures through an SBIG ST-2000XM.

The widefield of this area through the DSLR is still being processed. I will post it shortly.

Very nice Chris.

Looking forward to the widefield.

Thats a very nice CCD camera....the ST-2000XM...when I was shopping around I was actualy considering the single shot colour in the same model...ST-2000XMC

Thanks Guys for the nice words...

Tony and others... If you ever do go the cooled CCD route I really dont recommend the one shot color eg ST2000XCM. A 20Da will do the job just as well and is a LOT cheaper.... Plus images like th eone I took last night are not possible with a one shot color. Becuase it uses a bayer color matrix you loose a lot of resolution when your try put a Ha filter in front of it. Also you cant BIN one shot color camera like you can a monochrome...

Chris thank you for the info. I always wondered if there was a down side to the ST2000 single shot colour camera.

Your image is fantastic and I echo everyones comments too.

Well done.
