Now that I've got your attention, the ASV star party is going to be held in the first weekend of december in Heathcote - I wonder whether anyone here is going there. I would like to go as it is after exams but I will need someone to take me (I will contribute petrol money). I am in central Melbourne. So if anyone can please please pretty please help me could you please let me know.

As a newby (joined the forum group today) I have read about these star parties and they look like the sort of event I would enjoy. Owned a starter telescope for 3 weeks now and really enjoying looking at things I know nothing about. Hope to learn more from this type of activity. Heathcote is a few Km's from my place and the event is fairly imminent. I havent been successful in finding any other links though to get more info on actual location. Can anyone help?:help3:

Hi Muddy Diver
We are talking about Heathcote, Victoria. So it is a few Km's plus a State  .

Hey Muddy Diver, welcome.
I would pm ie private mail Starkler and ask him if he knows anything on this one.
Starkler is a melbourne based moderator and hopefully can point you towards a "New Moon" party!

oops, unlike tasmania, you guys have distances to consider. If i sneeze here in tassie, i end up falling in the ocean!!
try the central coast mob ie iceman re what is in nsw and how close it is to you.
star parties are great. experienced guys will wait weeks for nice weather, but as soon as a new guy drops in, they tend to drop everything and help the new guy all night and get no viewing done themselves!!!!
strange, but true, but nice!

Jeez! What chance do I have of finding anything in space? Thought it was too close and timely to be true. Not to worry. Thanx:doh:

i would suggest entering a new post under star parties saying "who lives near me in NSW" and "can i come to a star party"
once posted, look out for ving "the flying cow".
honestly, NSW tends to be the main hub (cos the founder lives there), so that you should not have any troubles finding guys to help. Even in tassie, we have got 5 of us ice inspacers now to monthly get togethers!

Don’t disperse Muddy Diver, you can go to the 14th Annual South Pacific Star Party, hosted by the Astronomical Society of NSW and will be held the weekend of 31st March - 2 April, 2006. This is a fantasic Star Party, well worth going and it is only four months away

Thanks Ving.
It looks good, think I may be able to get up there for the evening. Hope to see you there if I do. I've got relos arriving from UK that morning but am relying on them being too jet lagged to notice me missing.
Do you have further directions once in Kulnura?

Just a thought Ving, does anything happen with other local enthusiasts closer to home?
