Sick of eating Lobster!!
Managed to get 270mins of Ha Lobster data but blending it with my flawed RGB data made me realize that I'm flogging a dead horse...so enough already!!!

Posting the Ha data to put this crustacean to bed!

Hi Doug, looks very good. Lots of detail that I didn't see in the RGB. You may need some shorter exposures to deal with the bright patch. I'd persevere with a blend - even an HaGB.

Looks like nice data Doug, Shame you are having problems with the blend. You really don't need a lot from the RGB to get a nice blend and pretty impressive image with this as a lum layer. I do this blend in PS using the RGB as a base image and copying the Ha over the RGB and then set the blend mode to lum and adjust the opacity till I get a reasonable image to my eyes. The hardest thing is the star colour.

Good luck with it all mate. Too much to learn isn't it.

Very, very nice, Doug!!!. The detail in the shot is quite amazing and the colour really just tops it all off. Well done:D:D

Moved on at last - bad data and bad weather makes for a vicious cocktail!
Cheers all

Turned out really well Doug and not over-cooked. The Ha blend has worked really well to give more texture and detail. Really nice star colours. Well done. Whats next? A prawn perhaps?

Thanks Craig, and No!...I think I'll lay of the seafood for a bit.

The clear skies early on last night allowed me to test out some theories as to why I got such dodgy stars in the RGB (asymmetrical and with a bit of CA). Thought it might be coming from a. addition of A 1.4x extender to the 300mm lens or B. the step down ring I use to fit my 72mm LPS2 filter to the 77mm diam lens.

Culprit..."B"
Lens performed beautifully at 300mm and 420mm without the filter.
Once I established that the filter was at fault I tried to remedy it by stopping down to f8 - and as expected this fixed the problem. Although, now I have the diffraction spikes from the blades of the lens on the stars!

Attached is a 40min stack of M8/M20.

Cheers
Doug:thumbsup:

Nice and round and sharp. Might be worth trying another ring in case that one was faulty - out in pitch, warped or something. Otherwise you will be stuck with F8 and longer exposures which will have limitations.
