I recently acquired an Orion Stratus 13mm (wideview) lens and have been playing non stop with it. I had some great viewing last Saturday combined with a 2x barlow. I got up this morning at around 5.30am and found my good friend Jupiter just hanging there waving at me so I took a look and lo and behold, there was a little dark spot on the surface. Funnily enough I could see the moon still separate from Jupiter but it was obvious it was the moon shadow. Sorry to all you experienced wise heads out there but I was pretty excited seeing it for the first time in my setup. Now to look for the new scar...

I saw this for the first time myself back in March this year, and was equally excited by it. Just a stunning sight!

Its a Skywatcher 8inch and it was from my back yard in suburbian Brisbane.

1200mm focal length with 2x barlow and 13mm lens gives me about 184x magnification if I'm not mistaken..

Well done Rod :thumbsup: May I recommend you download this little gem, Jupiter 2 at http://www.astrosurf.com/rondi/jupiter/

It is a visual simulator of Jupiter and it's Galilean Moons. Here is a screen shot from 5:45am this morning. Probably exactly what you saw?

Well done Rod! Just got back in from a quick look with the 12". Bagged ol' Jove with the 9mm EP and popped in a neutral density filter I have just got to try and reduce the glare a little, and lo and behold, a little black spot right in the middle of the southern band! Checked a couple of charts and I think it was a transit of Callisto.
Very excited as it was my first Jovian transit!
