Hello

I am delighted to present 75 minutes of the “Wesley Impactor Scar”!;)

Prior to posting this, I contacted Anthony and not surprisingly, his animation will be some while a coming. So as an appertiser, here is my effort from capturing 30 AVI’s spanning the period 21:57-23:12pm AEST (UT+10) on 20th July 2009.

This 75 minute animation of the “Wesley Impactor Scar” required some 5 hours to process, so I now have a slight insight into what mountain of data Anthony is currently thrashing through!

For this animation, seeing was generally quite mediocre with some genuine “lava lamp” moments, hence the occasional gap in the sequence.

I hope you enjoy this amazing spectacle of nature, first recorded and reported by Anthony Wesley (Bird). It is quite fascinating to see the white spot appear to overtake the impact scar (at lower limb).

That's a nice animation, Dennis.

As you say, it's interesting to observe that white spot catch up and overtake the 'Wesley Scar'.

I hope there are many more animated and still images to come from many keen imagers of this fascinating development.

Wow, Dennis, that is fantastic.

Having looked at the animation a few times it seems to me as though the white spot is much higher in altitude than the background bands and Andrew's black spot considerably more so. This conclusion is drawn merely from the perspective I perceive and could well be (and most probably is) faulty.

I then thought "why cannot I see a trail of debris?". The NASA IR images at http://www.nasa.gov/topics/solarsystem/features/jup-20090720.html might answer that question.

Whatever caused the effect must have been a massive event.
