Hello!

Righto, I'm starting to research the finer details of the Skywatcher EQ6 in preparation to submit a proposal to the CFO (love you darling!).

To quote from the Skywatcher website, "11 to 15 V DC 2Amp (Tip positive)" is the power supply range for the mount. Now, for someone who isn't very switched on (pun intended) when it comes to DC and Amp etc, what does this mean in terms of powering the mount? Can it run off mains power with the aid of additional equipment? Ideally I would like to avoid using the battery pack as a source of power.

Any thoughts (or sledging :)) most welcome.

Cheers,

Benno

Gday Benno, there's a few threads on this topic already if you want a read through:

But to answer your question, the mount is rated to be powered from a DC (direct current) source (such as a car or deep cycle battery). In order to run it from the mains, you would need an AC to DC power supply to step down the mains voltage of 240volts down to 12 as well as "converting" the AC or alternating current waveform to DC. The above threads have details of the types of supplies available. Hope that helps a bit :)

No worries. I'm actually considering selling my setup (EQ6) in order to fund another project. Watch the classified's in next day or so :)
