Hi all, can someone please tell me what is done to a canon camera to modify it for astrophotograghy and the difference a modified and standard camera? REgards Bill.

Rather than me babbling on it may be best if you visit Erics web page. Eric is a member here on IIS and offers a modification service (I have used his service and he is very godd).
The link below explains light transmission curves and the process pretty well. I would suggest you have a poke around his website - heaps of info.

In as short as possible.
What is done is the internal filter of a Canon DSLR is removed and usually replaced with a UV/IR filter. Doing this allows the critical wavelengths of light through for Astrophotography. Mainly in the red spectrum e.g. H-Alpha light.
It is all explained on Eric's website. :)
