Ngc6337

Here's another from last weekend - NGC6337. This was also captured with the DSI II/Newt combination. 30x2min subs.

It's quite an unusual little PN with the donut shape and a number of small stars in the centre. This link reveals it looks a bit like a mini Helix nebula with the extended nebulosity I didn't manage to pick up.

Hi Peter,
Is the bright star a foreground star?
The other 3 fainter ones background stars?
I am referring to the stars within the donut.
Excellent shot for only 2min subs.

Cheers Frank and Duncan. I'm not sure if the bright/faint stars are in the foreground or background but thought it was quite unusual with the row of stars and the ring.

It's certainly an unusual one. When i get home i'll have to do some research on it.

Neat little PN Peter. I love the line of stars through the center. It almost looks like they were placed there on purpose.

very much like the helix, at first glance it looks like a perfect ring, but it looks like there are faint extensions to the upper left and lower right..... very much like the helix.

Really nice Peter. An unusual PN and photographed with a nice field of stars.
You do need a Losmandy mount (repeat in a low murmuring voice "You need a Losmandy mount, You do need a Losmandy mount, You do want a Losmandy mount ") to get rid of the very slight elongation of stars - the EQ6 is just suffering from too much use, weight and guiding times. Maybe a good dose of the old Carboni's would help, I know I always feel so much better after such actions.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone. I was interested in this PN due to the perfect donut and the lineup of stars. There's no shortage of interesting little objects out there (my AP list has over 600 candidates to track down).

I hear this voice telling me I need to upgrade to a G11 but until someone provides an EQMOD interface for it I'm sticking with the EQ6!

Very interesting little PN Peter you have done well capturing this data with 2min subs on the DSI. The line of stars in the middle really help identify this pn.
