Whoever coined "astrofest" needs to be taken out the back and quietly put down; it is dreadful affliction, starting with aperture fever and leading to terminal multiple telescopitis.
Star party, please.

You've obviously never been to astrofest Wavytone, its far more a festival than a party.......except for that sorry lot that inhabit the western fence, they're right into karioke after a few reds on the last Saturday night. Sad really.
And yes people usually do end up with those terminal illnesses after attending. :)

Yea, its the forum members who are pulling all nighters because we've had tons of practise.. I dont know how many cloudy weekend evenings I've spent on the forums until 4~5am... At Barambah I slept a total of 4 hours out of 70hrs I was there... Talk about dedication!

I'm all booked and ready to go along to my first Astrofest since taking up this hobby. Looking forward to putting some faces to names. I'm there for the nights of 19, 20, 21 August. Unfortunately can't stay for the Saturday night dinner due to commitments back in Brisbane.
PeterM
15-07-2009, 08:59 AM
It's the people who make Astrofest exactly what the name says it is and was always intended to be. And the comments here reflect the truely fun filled enjoyable event that it has become. It's not just a Star Party, everyone one else has them. In Queensland we had to extend it to a week long event to help people with their addiction, Astro therapy me thinks. If you haven't been to an Astrofest then you have missed something very special, put it on your calendar for 2010.
If "Star Parties" had their own State of origin series then the Queensland Astrofest would be like the result from tonights game and this years series - a white wash - Queenslander all the way.
Ok, if Qld lose tonight I will fly my burgundy undies from the flagpole at Astrofest from Midday on the last Saturday until 5pm, question and challenge is, if NSW lose will HOughy do the same with blue ones?

Hi!
I’ve just stumbled on this thread, albeit a little late and I feel compelled to correct a possible injustice to our esteemed colleague from down south, Sir H0ughy!;)
If I remember correctly, on his very first raid across the border into the Qld Astrofest camp, he was the only all nighter; plundering bucket full’s of our photons to produce a wonderful portfolio of images, certainly putting me to shame!:(
It does hurt me to say this, especially given today’s State of Origin #3!
Cheers
Dennis
troypiggo
15-07-2009, 10:43 AM
Surely you mean that if QLD lose, you'll fly Houghy's blue undies from your flagpole, and if QLD win he has to fly your maroon undies from his flagpole! :)
jjjnettie
15-07-2009, 11:02 AM
Dennis, I was referring to the final night of last years Astrofest. Dave and Al went to bed early because they were leaving at dawn the next day.
It was only we three who stayed the distance with only Wayne to keep us company.
Come to think of it, Ponders crashed around 2 or 3am. Seems he was a bit miffed about something.:P

If the mood in this thread is any indication it looks like its going to be a fun week+ :P
Might have to get there a day early to set up in the primest spot. :D And before that ........Tony.....has a chance to go crazy with his 200 dozen tins of white spray paint. I wonder if he spends a week practicing in his backyard before he comes to Astrofest. :P
PeterM
15-07-2009, 01:40 PM
Thanks Troy,
You have it exactly right.
Seems HOughy has accepted the challenge.
So just to be sure -
QLD lose tonight then at midday on the last Saturday I have to ceremoniously hoist HOughy's blue undies up the Duckadang flagpole.
NSW lose tonight then HOughy gets to ceremoniously hoist my Maroon undies up the Duckagdang flagpole at midday.
Simple.
Now where are my maroon undies.... oh I have them on, must remember to wash them in the next 30 days.....
PeterM.

I have to leave on the saturday very early Peter - but friday could be a go?;)
jjjnettie
15-07-2009, 07:23 PM
And if the game is a draw, do both pairs get strung up the flagpole?
PeterM
15-07-2009, 07:33 PM
Yup, Friday is the day then. I was going to say don't bring your undies you wont need them but it may cause controversy...hehehe

if the game is a draw, they get to give each other serious, underwear tearing wedgies!! :D
PeterM
15-07-2009, 07:38 PM
If it were to be a draw (it won't be, more like a massacre) it will go into extra time and be decided on the golden point.
But i'm game - a draw at full time and its both sets of drawers up the flagpole!
PeterM.

Love to but somehow i might not have the final say in that:whistle:
the lights eventualy went out by midnight, but then we had a fog roll in before - completely ruined the night.Al is on the other side of the swamp from me, i an sure he had a fan on blowing the fog my way.
Speaking of fogs the astrofest organisers may need to install fans on the perimeter fence to ward off such events this year, seeing as though you have had a bit of a top up in water levels up there.....
jjjnettie
21-07-2009, 08:06 AM
It's a very real problem isn't it.
Fans sound good Dave, but not really practical:screwy:.
A more scientific approach is needed.:confuse3:
How about if I bring along a scope to sacrifice to the weather gods?
