It Was Beautiful...But,

Was walking out to my fishing position at 6.20 this morning and, as I was facing north, saw a most beautiful streak of light, It lasted for perhaps 3 seconds and the colour went from red/orange to yellow, then green and then fizzled out against the predawn sky...Angle was about 40-45 deg. and its direction was from north to east.
It was beautiful and bright...But what was it??:shrug: Thought it might have been an iridium flare, until I consulted Heavens Above, but nothing for that time, nor that northerly direction.
Anyone any ideas?

no idea bobj iridium flares are usually yellow color but what ever it was sounded fantastic what a sight:eyepop:

Apparently several people saw this in the Mackay region and it became a topic on ABC Local Radio to which a journalist interested in astronmy was interviewed and his opinion was that it was a meteor. Problem solved.
