Jupiter and Neptune are very close at the moment. I wanted to get a shot of them together as StephenM has been doing recently. Last night I was doing some testing of my setup, so took the opportunity.

Not the best image, but it's my record of the event.

#1 Taken with my ED80, single frame, 10s exposure, ISO100, maybe a 2/3 crop.

#2 same shot with labels.

Nice Troy. Interesting how they've moved over the past couple of nights. Almost an inverse of the image I took the other night (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/attachment_browse.php?a=60318).

Great shot Troy and thanks for the version with text! Nice futuristic font too! I wonder what Galileo would have thought if he had looked at Jupiter through your ED80!

Cheers

Cool Troy.
I was out again last night having a go at imaging this. Brilliantly clear, pity about the seeing though.

Nice job Troy,

Even on such a small scale the colour of Neptune is apparent.

Cheers

Thanks very much for the kind words all. I know the image is no world-beater. Just glad I got some shots instead of frigging around with software. Now I think I sorted the equipment issues out, I'll go back for more quality time on this.

@Paul - Hadn't noticed that until you pointed it out. Quite noticeable.

@Dennis - I know the text is probably unnecessary in a forum as knowledgeable as this. It was more for showing friends/family etc. I like that font too for commenting images such as this. Can't remember where I got it, but you can download them here (http://piggo.com/%7Etroy/temp). They're pixel fonts, and look better at certain font sizes better than others. The above was 10px high.

@JJJ - I'm pretty newbie to all this. Skies nice and clear. What do you mean by "pity about the seeing"? Does that refer to the moon? Or like jetstreams or atmosphere up high? I didn't notice a bad problem with the above shot since it was such short exposure and the image scale I guess.

@Trevor - yeah, I was surprised to make out the colour of Neptune also. Very happy with that actually. Wasn't sure whether it'd come out that colour.

It just means how steady the air is.
If it's very bad, it's akin to looking at the cosmos through a film of water. It's especially noticeable if you're using high magnification. Lunar craters will wobble and Jupiter will only come into focus occasionally.
