Thanks Mike, I do like return to build up my post count.:P

This is the most I have posted on any site for Astronomy. I am so glad that there is finally a site in Australia where I can talk to local people and meet new friends in the Tasman.

Good on you Mike and keep up the great work.

Thanks guys..

Tom, are you referring to Paul's postcount, or the membercount.. or both? :lol2: :D

I agree, no point having 500 inactive members signing up - the current membership is awesome, full of great peeps. Still, more people signing up is more potential for more great peeps :P

I think quantity is underrated personally.:D More is always best. More of the S word is best, more alcohol is best, more food is best and more of life is best. Yes definitely more is best.:P

Both, I'd hate to see the friendly nature of this place compromised.

Ice, is great this forum has reached a milestone of "100 members". I hope this is at least your base level of expectation or more.

We all tend to learn from each other and benefit greatly from those amongst us that have probably, through either trial and error, or experience gained from being on similar or the same type of forums, or are just naturally inclined in what we undertake.

Naturally there appear to be a wide range of members that have varying levels of expertise and equipment.

What makes this a great forum, as do some other forums out there, is that everyone is willing to share their experience gained in one way or another and offer positive criticism or alternate solutions without putting people down.

Keep up the good work and everyone keep contributing.

Thanks Ken, and good thoughts there.
Tom, I agree - I love the friendly nature we've got going here and definitely want it to remain that way..

But "more members" and "friendly nature" are not mutually exclusive - we can have both. It's up to us, as individuals, to ensure it stays in that friendly nature as it continues to grow.

We just need to make sure people don't end up down the path of "scope envy", where we end up comparing our scope with other members gear and feeling insignificant or frustrated. This hobby isn't about who has the biggest and best gear.. You can't (and shouldn't) compare a $400 8" dob with a $7000 LX200GPS. They both have advantages and disadvantages, and you need to get the scope that fits your lifestyle and your budget.

As Dave47Tuc says, the best scope is the one you use.

I agree Mike about comparisons of scopes. Scope envy is normal, but it should not be held out as a reason to be unfriendly. An LX200 is an expense that I sometimes regret. And I have to tell you that the optics sometimes make me wonder what I was paying for. No scope is perfect, and just like beer the best one is the one in your hand at the time. Lets keep this site friendly and we won't have to end up like other sites. You have done a fine job Mike and all congratulations go to you. Thanks for creating this great site.

I'm sorry if my comment about scope comparisons made anyone feel uncomfortable or feel as though I was directing at them.

Truth is, my comment was not directed at anyone, and is certainly not a criticism of anyone here. It was a general off-hand comment about how scope-envy (as natural as it is) can make people feel uncomfortable about posting what equipment they've got etc, because it's not as "good" or "expensive" as others.

I was simply pointing out that the scope for you is the one that fits your budget and lifestyle. I'm sure we all want the same thing - more people in this great hobby of astronomy!

I'm sorry if my comment offended anyone or made anyone feel uncomfortable, it was certainly not my intention.

I'm all for that more the merrier, maybe people would not shoot at each other or fight over land if they just looked up and saw how insignificant such actions really are.

My dad commented on an upside down dead wombat beside the road as we were driving past on the way to the shack last year, "poor bugger he was only 12 years old".

"How'd you know that?" I asked (stupidly).

"I looked at his date*", was the droll reply.
