Centaurus A

Hi, I took this the other night of Centaurus A. Used LX200 10" at prime focus Cannon 350D Unmoddified 6 x 4min and 4 x 8min at ISO 800 guided with DSI on SW ED80.

No flats and used ICNR.

Needs more exposure time so I will add to it when the clouds go off again.

The image has come up quite well Paul. I think you may well have at least 1 sub which is imparting the little tail to the side of the stars. It might be worth while inspecting each frame individually to see if this is the problem and if so exclude it from the stack. Otherwise check your guiding.

Really nice colours too - well done with an unmoded camera. Good idea combining the DSI and 350D.

Thanks for commnts guys. Yes, I think I found the frame with a star trail so I will remove it from the set.

8min subs and a long FL, you certainly have the guiding sorted out (other than the one sub you found with the odd shaped stars?)

I'm still a little unsure about using ICNR, I have the feeling that it messes up the finer detail in DSO's. The outer reaches of NGC5128 are faint, ICNR might not be a good thing for this. Taking manual darks with a DSLR is a royal pain but it might be worth the efforts in the long run.

Yes indeed, when the clouds move on add some more data with that light bucket :thumbsup:

p.s. did you use a focal reducer for this image run?

Michael, good thought. Maybe I will turn off auto dark subtract anf take them manually. I tend to agree that some of the fine detail is missing (I was expecting a little more detail based on the long subs).

No, I did not use a reducer - went prime focus. Just goes to show just how the Canon 350D is widefiled.

Will post again once I have more subs taken as described above.
