Jupiter - Neptune conjunction.

One for the log books. :P Nothing fantastic but I got out there.:)

Meade SCT & .63 FR. Canon 300D @ ISO-800 for 3.2sec. FOV approx 60x40 arcmin. The best of a very poor bunch.

Transparency; good. Seeing = atrocious (2-3 @ best) with gusty SE winds upsetting the applecart. Focus using DSLR Focus but the seeing just wasn't up to it.

Don't know why Jupiter's moons are oval. Tracking or drift (over 3.2 sec :shrug: ) or field curvature from the FR.

Good capture of this event. Pity they did not get a lot closer in line of site, that would have been amazing at high res.

Thanks Rob. last night was about the closest they were going to get for me to capture thanks to some hills in the east. Separation was about 33° 49'

I know what you mean Paul. Could have been a challenge getting the exposure right though without either burning out Jupiter or too dim a Neptune. Oh for a reliable, cheap 16bit planetary camera :lol:

They did look good Stephen. Shame about the seeing but it was great to get out amongst it. Might have another shot tonight is the seeing improves. :confuse3: High in Tasman, Low in Coral, Jet stream sitting right on top of us. :rofl: yeah right :rofl:

Nice work Paul. I was outdoors problem solving my differential flexure issues and I saw this conjunction with the naked eye. I grabbed some shots of Neptune and Triton but when I tried to go deeper for Nereid, the nearby almost full Moon washed the field out when exposing for longer than 3 minutes!

The seeing was quite bad wasn’t it – I took the ST7 out and put an eyepiece in for a peek at the Moon and Jupiter and then gave up and went to bed.

I'm beginning to wonder if I would recognise good seeing if I fell over it considering sessions over the last 12 months. I was getting a bit twitchy that my collimation was off last night - makes me feel better to hear the truth about the seeing though from experienced voices :)

Good seeing in SE Qld.....:confuse3:....I'd say you would be lucky to get 3 or 4 good nights a year of great seeing and maybe a dozen or 2 of good seeing with the rest mediocre to blah. This time of the year when we need it the most....blah. :lol: Though if we can get one of those big highs to park itself over us for a few days then get on out there. You never know your luck. Especially if you are lucky enough to live near the beach.
