I reckon thats why the US is in a hurry to go back now ;)
wonder if it was a GS rocket? :)
I dont think the Chinese will be as concerned as the west is about horrible loss's of people along the way either? - they will still have 999 999 999 998 left to go - maybe they will just use death row prisoners instead?

Yep! I watched the lift-off live on CNN today. Dave Reneke was doing the live commentary!
The Chinese claim that they will have a Red Flag on Mars placed by Chinese astronauts by 2025!!!
They also claim they will have a Chinese Space Station by 2010 and be building on the Moon by 2015 :scared2:
One comment during the broadcast was that NASA approved the Chinese Lift-off! Why did they need permission? NASA doesn't own Space!!!!
nasa need a push i say! :D
2025 on mars hey! :)
wow!
ballaratdragons
12-10-2005, 04:33 PM
I think they are pushing the boundaries by claiming to have a Space Station by 2010! That only leaves them just over 4 years!

Ken,
Well they must be building something they are the biggest buyer's of steal in todays world. Besides their economy is cranking, especially when you have 350 million middle class workers alone, 2-3 times that of the US.
regards,CS
thats middle class workers doing it all for the equivalent of chicken feed...
xrekcor
12-10-2005, 05:19 PM
Ummm no, maybe the the peasent farmer. Todays middle class workers in
China are buying cars, housing with all the modcons...etc...etc... hard to get
those things on chicken feed. Their economy is booming and fast catching up
with the US and will at it rate of pace out strip the US, why do you think the
US wants them to adjust their currency, Do you see anyone else complaining
about that?
anyways this is another debate and very much off topic, and pushing the
posting rules. So lets ends this now before I get into trouble

Boy there is no stopping these guy's, oh I know ! turn them into a democracy that will give us a chance to catch up
If we would stop waisting so much money on invading other peoples countries we would be going to Mars as well !
Louie

I dunno if this is true or not,
but there were rumours circulating in some circles that they had plenty of rocket problems before this and many rockets failed or exploded. But it looks like they got it going ok now. :)
According to yahoo news It seems that they have included a sh*t dispensor on board.... handy for not having the feaces flying all over the shuttle I suppose.
In anycase I think space exploration should be shared by all mankind, not belonging to anyone nation. The idea of US trying to compete in a space race is just silly, who cares if someone else makes it to mars first..... personally I think the space faring nations should just developed their space technology as they see fit, instead of turning it into space olympics.
slice of heaven
12-10-2005, 07:56 PM
Not likely, gs is Taiwanese :)
As long as space remains free to all nations there's no problem with who's up there. As with the original Space Shuttles, the Chinese spaceflights are military.
I agree with Ving, the workers get paid chicken feed. $300us/year for the average rural worker and $1000us/year for the average urban salary IS chicken feed. The reduced labour costs are what makes it viable for companies to produce their goods there.

The Heavens-Above website
http://www.heavens-above.com
now has preliminary predictions for when/if you can sight the Chinese spacecraft from wherever you are. Those predictions should firm up soon.

is it a Chinese owned Taiwanese based company like Synta? ;) anyway Taiwan used to be part of China apparently http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/tw.html (i think they want it back too?) so technically I am not far off? :-))))
I keep hearing the expression "chinese dobs" it must of stuck :D
Kearn
PS I thought the US had already staked out claims on the moon while they were up there? :D - no? it wouldnt be much different too the situation of everyone owning bits of Antarctica as they do-

Problem with a lot of this 'Man on Mars' suff is we will be getting pretty old by then! Our kids might one day travel the cosmos as tourists, but I think we are a bit late ourselves.
If only they started all this Space race 100 years earlier!!
But still fun & exciting watching it all start to happen.

Who . . what . .
Yeah, I reckon good on whoever gets to set-up on another planet first. Someone is bound to do it eventually. I did expect it to be a joint effort though, just like the ISS.

I think your getting a lil mixed up between lower class and middle class :D
