Hi guys,

Have not posted a Jove image since last year - to say that the weather and seeing has been atrocious in Melbourne this apparition is an under-statement!

Anyhow, here it is, with Io in transit, taken in average conditions on Wednesday morning.

Re-sampled 1.3x in Registax - approx. 600 RGB frames stacked and processed and finished up in CS3.

Lets hope the seeing improves closer to opposition.

Clear skies.

Lovely image for the conditions described, John.

Io looks 3D transiting the planet's face. Terrific!!

Very nice image John, certainly worth the wait.
Nice detail and structure and Io looks just great.

Not use to seeing Jupiter presented with North up. Not sure, but I think you could get even more from your data. The RGB channels look perfectly aligned at the poles but not so at the East and West limbs.

I suppose aligning the limbs will detract from the excellent definition you have achieved with Io. If Io was not transiting you could have processed it separately.

Regardless, I think this is a very nice piece of work.

Well done
Regards
Trevor

Hi John,

Good to see someone has been staying up late or getting up early for Jove. This is a great image from Melbourne, I find the seeing usually doesn't co-operate for me to get this much detail. Well done.

Except for the colour issues...

There is a magenta cast to the image and a cyan edge to the limb of the planet. I hope you don't mind, but I've taken the image over to Photoshop and fixed both these. See if you like it.

Cheers
Stuart

Very nice indeed, John! Great to see an image from you again.

And nice rework Stuart, much better colour.

Thanks for the comments guys

No worries Stuart - thanks for that - looks far better

Hi Tervor - agree - always a tough one the old RGB aligning - normally I align using a feature that is transiting close to the meridian of the planet - so the limb and even the moon will be out.

Nice going mate, yep Magenta in the first image but I like the 3D effect on Io. Seems like everyone is getting this now. Like the detail in the image, might pay just to check your RGB alignment a little. Maybe one or two pixels out from left to right.

Keep em coming.
