Hi all.
We'd love you to take part in the October Imaging Challenge (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/index.php?id=69,241,0,0,1,0). Please post your images here.
Please ensure all images obey the posting guidelines when you attach them.
While it would be nice if the image was taken in the month of October, it's not essential so feel free to post older images if you're unable to take some new ones.
We look forward to seeing your contributions!

Hi Guy's, well I did'nt think I would fit these little buggers on my chip but just managed to squeeze them in.... I love little faint fuzzies all bunched up together .

Thanks David and Gary, hey no extra charge for the donuts in It ! you know I viewed these many times but never as a quartet , I've always thought of them as the Grus Triplet am I the only one ?

Nice catch Louie. I have heard the three closest galaxies being referred to as the "Three Bears", but most other references I have seen say Grus Quartet. The Grus Triplet is fitting though as they do resemble the Leo Triplet.

Thanks Andrew, the Three Bears ah .... never heard that one before ,thanks for the info !
Do you know the distance off the top of your head Andrew ?

Hi louie, I have just had a good look at your image for Supernova, none found but great shot, the three galaxies in a group NGCs 7582 7590 and 7599 are usualy known as the Grus or Southern Triplet with NGC 7552 just out of the field of view, but show up in wide images or a good wide field eyepiece.astroron  :astron:

Given distance is 18 Mpc, or about 60 million light years.astroron

Thanks astroron , 60 moillion light years I understand ! Mpc drive me crazy trying to convert to light years to get a feel of the distance ,what is It 2.5 light years to a pc? So also known as the southern Triplet ! good to know I'm not going senile as yet .
What no super nova , look harder mate ! please find one ! that would be a buzz .

Hi Louie One parsec(pc) is equal to 3.2616 light years or 206.265 astronomical units. Kiloparsec(Kpc)=1000 parsec and Megaparsec(Mpc)=1000.000 parsecs, so the distance to Alpha Cent is aprox 1..32 pc, so to get an idea of the distance just add the pc by 3.2 and then multply by 1000 for Kiloparsec and 1000.000 forMegaparsec,
I hope that helps. astroron

Thanks astroron ! so just times by 3.2 , 1,000 and 1,000,000.00
Chris I used an ED 80, camera was a SXV-H9C and It was a 15minute guided exposure .

Correct louie, at 18 Mpc x3.2616=58.780.800 light years aprox to this galaxy group. astroron

God astroron ! what is this partical with wave behaviour that has the energy to travel these enormous distances . Is this what gets us hooked on these faint fuzzies ? knowing that .
Some times I force my self to stop thinking about It because I start feeling
over whelmed by It all  especially when I try to picture the expansion of the universe in my head .

Excellent image Louie!! well done
I loved those multiple galaxy shots.
Aint that the truth!!
I sometimes wonder if there will ever come a time when we will travel to
some of the objects we observe and image. The more I look and observe
the more insignificant I feel. But like Louie said, it's probably what hooks
me too. Like when I first observed quasar 3C273 and realised the photons
entering my eyeball were 1.9 billions years old, Imagine something so bright
it could be seen at such a distance.

True, but it also shows how special and priveleged we are that we can gaze on these beauties and wonder.
