Hi everbody, first post here. I've been lurking this great site for some time and am about to purchase my first scope, a skywatcher 8" dob, after playing around with a friends 5" reflector. This site has been fantastic for starting out.
Can anyone recommend any good dark sky sites around newcastle?
Cheers.

G'day OmicronPersei8, :hi:& :welcome:, mate.

Newcastle, eh. The Pony Club then for sure. Look up the 'Star Parties' forum for july updates, & the 'sticky' posting for directions.

Congrats in advance for your new scope. Definately take it with you to the 'PC'. You will be able to give it a good ol' fang, under controlled conditions,. Plenty of tips to be had, other scopes to look through, and maybe be able to use a couple of top notch EP's in your scope to see what is possible.

I might look at coming by the PC this month too, :scared2:, or next.

Mental.

Does anyone have any that they use regularly that are closer to newy than the central coast? I saw that the Newcastle astronomical society holds their viewing nights at cook park in shortland, i havent been able to make it to one yet. Does anyone have any experience / oppinions of that site?
