I know yet another eta

10 x 2 mins with darks and flats added.
and 5 with a few random times too from 30s to 600s
8"sct with 6.3 reducer 40D unmodded

I have tried to stack this several times but end up with something that looks like a wahsed out mess. Finally managed to get this from them with a lot of messing.

Look pretty dam good to me, detail, guiding, and focus all look good. The fact that the 40D is unmodded means you are going to capture a lot of OIII which the camera is quite sensitive to and not so much of the Ha although the 40D is better in Ha than most of the DSLRs.

Pretty good detaill in that shot, Mart!!. The 40D is doing some nice work there.

It might be another Eta, but why not, it is a great target to practice on and you have captured a nice image, well done.

I am contemplating getting the camera modded. Which should improve the Ha sensitivity. Just gotta save the pennies :)



indeed it is, I had to buy the AC adapter for the next round of Pics.(now I know why the clouds havent cleared in Perth yet :lol: sorry Perthites)




Thanks Leon, I am going to try without the reducer to see if it will make a difference in the capturing of more detail.



Cheers, My PS skills leave a lot to be desired. I just dont know when to stop :)

If anyone has any tips for stacking and PS work it would be greatly appreciated.

I recently got the 40d that im using modified and utilizing a Astronomik UV/IR screw in. Once these clouds nick off we should go for a bit of a wonder to take some good deep sky time!

the 40d modified is unreal in Ha, the difference is huge! 5 min with a LPF and the UVIR on a equinox 80 ed Lagoon was bright red pre processing and the details where nice (from morley perth).

the original image of Eta that i had taken at 4 min shots flats darks subtracted was almost bright blue with a few hints of red around. Tonight im going to have a crack at it again! ill let you know how it goes.!

We must get out and have a go for sure....I am still not happy with my drift method and having someone with me that knows what to do would be an advantage.

I will be going to golden grove on the 18th and/or 25th dependent on the weather of course.

I don't think this rain will nick off for us :D though if the clouds doo part i will be out of here faster than you can poke a stick at a frog :) was going to get out and do some astronomy but the weather has just been woeful! :( Ill keep my eye peeled and see what we can sort out with the weather.

Mart, one thing I love about posting pictures on the net is when people tell me what is right and wrong with my work. I learn so much from what is wrong it's not funny. As long as people tell me why...not just what.

Give your sensor a good clean to get rid of those horrible dust motes. They do distract. Looks like a bit of field curvature in the corners. Polar alignment off? If that's not it, maybe it's coma thats could be corrected by a flattener?

Other than that, I would say that's a very good image mate. Colour balance looks fine and focus is nice and sharp. Great details captured and it is vibrant with good contrast.
