Conditions tonight were very poor with a near full moon and gusty winds so my imaging session didn't last long but here's what I have to show for the weekend. M104 using the DSI II pro and Newt. I took 105 x 1min subs but was only able to use half of them due to the wind blowing the scope around.

Good to know someone else was wrestling with the wind last night. I risked leaving the dew cover off to try and help. Damned Skyneedle seemed to be going all hours too I noticed.....

Thanks for the comments Rob, Doug and David. I think conditions would have been quite good tonight if the wind settled down. I could see the dust land detail appearing in the live-stacked image in Envisage as I was acquiring the subs.

Whats the story with the sky needle - I thought it was only meant to be on for a limited time each night?

105 1 minute subs, wow. Its amazing really when you think about it that we can take a photo of a galaxy like that that is umpteen gazillion kilometres away.

Greg, I think that is what really has me fascinated in astro-photography - these objects are so far away yet you can get a reasonable image with what is quite modest equipment.

Nice shot again Peter.
In relation to the skyneedle - maybe if we all got together and complained about the blatant light pollution, green house gasses and waste of money for someone that obviously needs people to "look at me", then we could get it switched off.
The only thing that comes close in my mind is the night lighting of bridges in Melbourne.
Waste of money, and light glare.
Rant off.
