July Jupiter

Here's my first real Jupiter of the year. Had some camera problems last night when seeing was a little better but a new driver got me going tonight. It seems like the image still needs a little something. Suggestions welcome - my boss would say it needs "pop".

Beautiful work, Dave. Lovely colour and detail. Probably could use just a bit of extra sharpening to give it a bit more pop. Just a slight unsharp mask.

OMG :D. I dont how this happend. I saw name Mike Salway propably in the thread under this one and when I saw the image I thought that was your, Mike.

Here is another shot a few minutes later. I tried to get rid of some of the softness. The family members like another version of the initial picture that brings the cloud bands out at the expense of fine detail. I posted that one too for anyone else who likes that. Thanks for the comments and tips.

Very nice image of Jupiter Dave, I like the second to last one the best.

How high was Jupiter for you to capture? This would have to be one of the best I have seen from the norther hemisphere for a while.

Thanks Lester. I was surprised to see that Jupiter was a bit over 46 degrees for me - quite a bit better than last year.

Dave, the very first image looks the best. The other images are over processed. Some data just does not need that sort of treatment. I am more impressed with the first lot of processing and is more like I would treat that data. Too often people over process data and it looks like a pastel picture rather than an image of a distant planet. My opinion I guess but I like processing that shows the faint detail in smooth transition and not like it was smashed into existence.

Thanks for the feedback. I've tended to overprocess in the past and it's challenging for me not to do it now :). Here's one from the next night (July 5th). It's probably a bit overprocessed too but shows a little different face from the night before. Seeing wasn't quite as good as the night before. I'm hoping for an image of the GRS area but weather may not cooperate again soon...
