A few people have been stating what their favourite planet is, for me it is saturn, then jupiter, then mars.

Just a curious question?

Apart from the Earth.
In the eyepiece :astron: Saturn & Jupiter are :jawdrop:

Saturn for its rings & Jupiter for its fast rotation & the Jovian Moon dance.

Through my little scope it would be have to be Saturn and those rings :eyepop: then Jupiter and it's moons :eyepop: and then Earth and all of it's troubles.. :ashamed:

Just can't beat the gas giants for a breaktaking view through an eyepiece.

Mars because of its proximity and mystery.

The one that throws up the sharpest/high contrast/crispest/largest image scale with the least amount of mag/don't need big aperture to pull in details.

I picked the Earth, cos ya don't need a scope to see it:scared2:

Gotta be good ole mother earth, then saturn, followed by Jupiter, but then again, the only one that man is likely to set foot on, apart from earth, is mars so that has to be up there too...:D

No points for guessing what I picked...

Saturn always gives the wow factor, but for my money it is Jupiter. Just love imaging it and it really is never boring, even on the boring side.

If I can see any feature on a planet (rings, landscape) I think it's great!:D

Joop then Ringo for me.

Why Joop first I hear you ask? (well, someone did). It has amazing detail easily seen from Earth but mostly because I was in print as the first to observe and record the Massive storm change of the GRS and formation of a 2nd red spot (even though only temporary) approx 18 years ago. So a bit of Nostalgia for good ol' Joop. And coz I love watching the Joopian Moons change location in their orbits, and the shadows they cast on Mother Joop.

But yes, Ringo is a 'Fantastic Planet' (sounds like a good name for a movie). Those rings and multi-coloured bands never fail to please and make viewers go "oooo, aaah!"

Venus when its a morning star all by itself. Saturn next.

But its the good ol' moon for me. Magnificient desolation.... as Buzz would say.:P

Gotta be joop as others have said for the changing details and the dynamic display of its moons. Saturn looks much the same every time I look at it depending on seeing.

Houghmeister von Houghle, is there any reason you didn't include the Moon? I know it's not technically a Planet . . but . .

I just had look at this poll to see if Uranus had taken the lead yet, no, but one more vote anyway.
Wonder who else voted for this little blue/green fella  and why.

Also why is the total percentage over 100% even over 200% ?

That's easy - Saturn will always be No.1 for me! Seeing a fuzzy Saturn in a dismal, poorly mounted toy shop telescope as a kid started me off on this whole astronomy thing.

Second is Jupiter for the detail, Galilean moons etc.
