Hi all,i have a 5 inch telecope and am wondering if an 8 inch is a lot better for viewing dso and planets .:help:
would greatly appreciate any advice .

The difference in going from a 130mm to a 200mm should be quite literally, like night and day !!
On planets, it will show a brighter disk, and be able to resolve more detail, and a wealth of DSO's will be opened up to you to.
its a good upgrade.

And a 12 would be even better :D
Seriously if you crave more aperture, a 12" hits a sweet spot imo between manageability and light grasp.

Would love a 12 inch but unfortunately a little too pricey.:(
I used to have an old 4.5" reflector "first time around" in the 80s. I've found an 8" reflector a very pleasing step up for viewing everything, at a very reasonable price. Weight wise and size its quite manageable too.
With a webcam or camera attached I'm constantly astounded at some of the stuff that can be sighted (EQ mount required and lots of fiddling about too mind you).
