Unconfirmed reports, but probably true given the media's sudden lock down on information on him. I hope it isn't, irrespective of his oddness, brilliant singer and songwriter. Not a super huge fan, but I do have a lot of respect for him and it'd be sad to see him gone.

It's all over twitter right now.

I wasn't a huge fan but did love some of his stuff, a very talented guy.

Certainly the end of an era.

Jeez - along with Farrah Fawcett, who's lost to cancer. She's died at 62. A sombre day in LA today.

Very sad. Unique and extremely talented and versatile artist. Left his mark for sure.

My thread might be a bit premature according to this link. Nothing is being confirmed, which makes me really suspicious that he has indeed passed away. They're probably waiting for all of the familly to get there and make a joint statement.

some of his clips like Thriller and Billie Jean were (imho) unforgettable. I guess I grew up in that era. Much maligned artist, greatly misunderstood. I think he remained very much a little child for his entire life, something that's not a bad thing imho.

That's a shame.

I feel very sad for his family and friends.

I also think it's sad he didn't get the chance to get back out on the road and do what he did best - perform.

A genuinely talented and unique human being, whom I suspect was terribly misunderstood.

Oh, did Farrah finally pass on. How sad.
She'd still be here if she wasn't so vain. Surgery would probably have cured her but she didn't want to have to wear the inevitable colostomy bag. Guess it's hard to find shoes to match.

Michael Jackson died? Never was a fan. Must say that better people than him pass on every day with barely a whisper of appreciation for all they've done in the community.

Yes, I'm a sour puss cranky pants.

I was never a fan of much of his stuff but ......I agree absolutely, largely deprived of a real childhood by his father which inevitably contributed to his psychological issues (and downright weirdness). I reckon he tried to reclaim his childhood as an adult.

A sad end considering he was in the throws of getting his career back on track.

Yes, sad stuff undeed ... radio just said the the 'Thriller' CD is the top selling album of all time.
I have that CD and loved it.
We will be inundated with his music and life stories today.

ABC news has recently confirmed it.

Sad to see him go. I grew up with his hits and rather liked a bit of his music, although I would never have seen him in concert.

Got a cousin who 25 years ago was obsessed with him (befire he started on transforming his physical image). Posters all over the bedroom wall, all his music, etc, etc, etc,. She was estatic when she won tickets to see him plus meet him back stage. After it was over, she mellowed out and said he's just a normal bloke, nothing too great.

50 is too young to die like that.

I'll give my Thriller LP a spin at the next opportunity. He gave the world some great music.

From the news reports:-

"The shows for the 50 London concerts sold out within hours of going on sale earlier this year..... There have been concerns about Jackson's health in recent years but the promoters of the London concerts, AEG Live, said in March that Jackson had passed a four-and-a-half hour physical examination with independent doctors."

I bet AEG Live are "spittin' chips" and looking at their insurance policies.

Sadly he had no childhood and tried to recreate it as an adult. I agree he is greatly misunderstood. Real talent like his comes along so infrequently.:(

Agreed. He was not treated very nicely by society, and that is a very sad thing.

farewell to one of the original angels... RIP farrah.

not a fan of MJ himself but his music was good. RIP self proclaimed king of pop.

somewhat of an eccentric, i dont know how much of the media reports was completely true. Most of those people are a little odd ( howard hughes and others) they become a recluse and lose touch with reality to some degree.

Some of the music was good .

i cant say im overly suprised though at his death

I'll join you there, Jeanette.

He produced some wonderful music over his career, but that's where it ends for me.

Ironically, I heard the news as I passed a fatality on the Tulla Fwy this morning. Alas, the poor lady in that car is just a statistic to the rest of the world, I felt more sad for her and her family and friends, than Jackson, I'm afraid.

At 7:00 this morning I found out that one of my cousins passes away on Wednesday morning from a cerebral hemorrhage, he was 35, just before 8:00 I found out about Farah Fawcett and at around 8:30 I heard about Michael Jackson. A very sad morning for me indeed. Icons and loved ones passing. A very sad day. :(

Pity to see him go under such ignominious circumstance. I couldn't stand his music, grabbing his nethers, thrusting & going "whooop!" all the time - it was just childish to say the least, but I admit he was talented. I can't say I'l miss him, and besides, Buzz Aldrin has already taken his place:

As with Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, and Michael Jackson, fame and living in a gold fish bowl can take it's toll.
Now look for all the stories that will come out to make the parasites some money.
We quickly put these people on a pedestal and then spend ages pulling them down.
May he now Rest In Peace.
But I doubt it for a while.

I also thought Farrah Fawcett seemed to be a nice person, and to die with that disease is sad.
RIP Farrah.

Some posts have been removed due to the sensitive nature of the topic.

Whether you like Jackson or not, it would be appropriate if people who don't have anything nice to say to not say anything at all in this thread. That is, a human being has died, it would be better to show some restraint so as not to upset.

RIP Michael Jackson , a wonderful wonderful performer and way too young to die . Sure he was as nutty as a fruitcake but as they say , theres a fine line between a genius and insanity. Thanks for some wonderful music in my younger years , you'll be sadly missed ......:(

I think it's terribly sad when we lose someone so gifted. But at least the family won't be fighting over his money - he apparently died $400 mills in debt. Tragic ...

My condolences Paul, our thoughts are with you and your family. I will be 33 this year and i could not imagine leaving this world so soon nor the affect it would have on my family. It makes one think how much time do we really have, and how quickly it passes.

I was never a huge fan of MJ, but it i still recall the first video song i saw and very likely the first english song i heard was MJ's Billy Jean. It was when i was still back in India and I must have been about 7 and visiting a cousin who had returned for holidays after migrating to Melbourne Australia. He showed me the video clip and i was fascinated. MJ could dance and sing and all in color (we only had a BW tv at home). I will always note that vivd memory and think of MJ as what he was best at Dancing and Singing, all the rest is not important. I am a big fan of Elvis Prestly (a result of when i came to aus i did not realise there was a FM band nor more than a few stations 2ch), i wondered why the kids in my class did not know the songs i was humming. I think the attention these great talented people get and the microscope the live under is far to much preassure. I am sad that again a life is cut short. I see the media circus is in full swing, but i am avoiding it.

As a general memorial, if you want to see his vids, "RAGE" ABC TV One have them tonight between 12.25 am to about 1.30am. Then on Saturday morning roughly between 8.50am to 10am. This will also be generally repeated also at 4pm on ABC2.

For Program Info, see http://www.abc.net.au/rage/archive/s2609687.htm

Best vid IMO is "Billy Jean."

Ironic though - a man with effectively unlimited means, wants to be forever young, and dies at age 50, looking like a 70 years old.
Don't mess with mother nature. There are lessons for all of us in MJ.

Apparently Michael's doctor is missing (no where to be found) sounds a little suss to me :screwy::shrug:

I was one of his lighting riggers and stage crew on his History tour down
here during the mid 90's. I remember standing on stage in sydney as all
the head production staff's lil children went on stage for his rendition of
We Are The World. With all the mums watching and smiling with glee I
leant over to one and said... Amazing stuff eh', but would you let lil
johnny go back to the ranch?. He had initially canceled that tour due
to accusations being level against him. Until Danty threatened to sue him.
MJ was already losing money.

I remember him as quite a sickly man, very shinny with his clothes just hanging
off him. If anyone saw that tour I played one of the skeleton dudes. You
had to where this skeleton suit with this contraption that had another two
skeletons attached to it, one on your left and one on your right. they moved
in sync with your body movements... so if you lifted your leg the other two
would do the same... must admit it was funny stuff.

An inspirational start I guess, but no great loss by the time of his death.
Hey maybe the old AAA pass is worth something now :)

On another note, yes very sadden to hear my all time childhood crush
Farah Fawcett had passed away.

regards,CS

As someone at work said to me, becoming famous while so young must have been a great strain. He didn't have the chance to develop as a person before being plunged into the gold-fish bowl. He never had the chance to live a normal life. Perhaps this explains some of his eccentric behaviour.

A very sad time and the end of an era. :(
He was a brilliant singer/ songwriter/performer with generations growing up on his music.
Also sad new of the loss of Farah Fawcett, she was my (and I think every boys) childhood babe.

Daniel.
