All,

Those of you who know me will recall that I lost all the astrophotographic data I had ever captured for the last 4-5 years in a hard drive failure. I had just my Rho Ophiuchus and Alnitak data saved locally. The rest died on my ex-housemate's notebook's hard drive.

I found a DVD lying around tonight which had some useable data on it. I must have made a backup at some point in the past but forgot about it.

I thought why not reprocess one of my favourite objects.

So, anyway, read and view here (http://members.optusnet.com.au/mrozycka/Magellan_Observatory/Magellan_Observatory_20070128_Eta_C arinae_Nebula_R.html).

In the conversion to sRGB for web, some of the colours have tended towards a slight salmon, especially the keyhole, and as a result, the region now has a flat appearance. In the original *.PSD file, it's vibrant, has form and is full of colour; something's gone awry in the conversion process. Never to mind. I will recapture this gem when I can make it out next time, with the 40D (modified). Having said that, I'm quite pleased with all the subtle star colours.

Comments and critique are most welcome.

Regards,
Humayun

I can see what you mean about the colours, especially in the saturated areas.

But it's a stunning image. I can't wait until you start producing new images!

Despite color bias issues this is a great image!

it doesnt look so bad on my laptop ? though it did save with blue lines on it for some reason.

i did the autocolor button in photoshop and not much changed , maybee mine imported it differently to the others (big shrug of the shoulders)

sorry about all your data. 5 yrs gone. time to redo only better now you have the experience.

Lovely image Humayun . The salmon colour doesn't look unnatural to me after all there is quite a large reflection/ OIII area around the core of this nebula.
Looks good to me.

Not bad work Humayun. You maybe able to convert it to Lab colour and tweak the a and/or b channels to reduce the impact. Shame about the loss of data...now get out there and collect more to make up for it.;)

Mike,

Cheers. It's just a matter of finding time away from work, and, the weather to stop conspiring against us all! :)

Tom,

Thanks! I realise there's a fairly horrible bias, but, still, I think it's OK. Cheers for the compliment. :)

Clive,

Not sure why it came with blue lines for you?

Yep, can't wait to get back out and re-shoot it all. :D

Lester,

Thanks, mate!

Steven,

Cheers. :)

Doug,

I did compare my version with other people's who also have used a modified DSLR, but, they still manage to get a bit of purple/blue in there's. I'm not sure what's happened with mine. I don't have the original RAW data to stack again, just the final PSD file that IRIS saved for me. I'll just have to re-shoot it. :)

Thanks. :)

Jase,

Cheers. LAB was something that I did consider afterwards. I'll just leave it be for now, and, as you've said, get out there and re-do it all. :)

Thanks, all!

Humayun

Pretty mad picture. Huge FOV. Not too keen on the star colors and overall red tinge but I have to admit the field sharpness and contrast is pretty neat. Can't wait to see more from you.
