I was presented with clear skies on Friday allowing me to have another chance at imaging. Conditions were good and there was no moon to contend with. :)
I really wanted to have a second attempt at M16. As it had almost been a year since the last time I had imaged it. Nothing spectacular but the coolish temperatures and calm conditions really helped.
Imaged with C8 F/6.3 on EQ6 Pro, Pulseguided through EQMOD with DMK21 and PHD, Canon 450D @ ISO1600, 26 x 5 minute exposures, stacked in DSS and processed in PS CS4.
I am pleased with the result, however I think it is time for an upgrade.
Thanks for looking.

Matty,
Wonderful, wonderful! Very pleasing on the eyes.
Let's hook up for an imaging session along with trick and Tilt and bloodhound31 and toryglenboy and whoever else wants to come along. I'm pining to do some imaging. :)

It's a good result Matty from what sure was a long session. There's never a bad time for an upgrade.

Pretty good Matt, all the basics covered by the looks of it
25yrs ago that would have been front cover US S&T material :)

Thanks Alex. The extra exposures really helped make processing much easier.
Thanks Humayun.
I am on holidays starting after next week. So let's definitely get together. We just need the weather to clear up.
Thankyou Prokyon.
Thanks Peter.
I totally agree with you. There's never a bad time for an upgrade. ;)
Thanks Mike. I still amazed what a simple setup can produce. :)
Thanks Clive,
I am starting to outgrow my C8 for imaging. Although it is a great scope, I am at a point where I don't think it can produce higher res images. I'd love to upgrade my camera as well though I don't think I am ready yet.
I am really interesting in the new GSO RC's and with the release of the 10". It looks like that's where I'm heading with an upgrade.
Thanks Ric. Glad you like it. :)
Just stunning Matty! I love the gentle luminosity as you look into it, and the colour is beautiful.
I wonder if ISO 400 (or even 800) might help contain the stars a bit? Jerry Lodriguss says it doesn't really affect the detail you capture unless:
1. ISO too high and you get pixels "overflowing"
2. ISO too low and you never get a pixel to "light"

Rob and Matty...
There are likely two things causing the stars to look a little bloated... The image was taken with an SCT... The SCT's optical design doesn't really lend itself to producing very tight star images... Thats not to say they can't do it, just that its not what they designed to do. If you look at spot diagrams for comon SCT's and say, a good APO refractor or a CDK/RC telescope and that will tell you the story...
Also, During processing, using power stretching or DDP can avoid bloating the stars... watching the upper end of your curves can also help greatly...
Less than great seeing can also cause it.... A mixture of two of the above or all three could definitely be the cause of the slightly bloated stars..
Detail throughout the nebula looks good, indicating focus was spot on...

I still have some way to go with the C8, not thinking of upgrading just yet!.
Did I say that!

Matty, 23x5 is a great session and the image shows it (fabulous processing). I am also hanging out for the GSO RC10 to go with the ED 127.

Thanks for all the comments. I really appreciate it. :)
It looks like I have my mind set on the new 10" GSO RC. It will be a huge step up from my C8 so I can't wait to get my hands on one! :D

Should make a stunning upgrade Matt... Hopefully GSO address these reflection issues and put a nice focuser on the 10" RC, then it will definitely be a ripper!

Information on these scopes is still very hard to find. However, hopefully GSO will address the issues encountered with the 8" versions. The 10" will definitely be a great scope.
I love buying new toys. :P

I agree 100%... I love buying new toys too!! :) The 8" RC will hopefully last me a year or so, then I'll likely make the move to the 12" when its released.. Hopefully the 12" is F/6.. Or at least, hopefully the then, Astronomics have released the 0.75x reducer.. which will bring the F/8 scopes down to F/6. I think the 12" at F/8 would be a little unwieldy.. :)
