We have had a great W/E of clear & stable skies here in Gove
Sat night was awesome, with the view of Andromeda through a pair of 16 x 60 Binos, spilling over the field of view & M110 looking like a big bright galaxy in its own right.
Mars was the best I have seen yet with Sirtis Major & the Helias basin clearly visable, as well as the north polar hood and the blue limb cloud haze.
Topped off by the usual greats such as 47 Tuc, Tarantula nebula, Albiro, NGC 253 & 300, the Saggitarius nebulas & more
All this capping of a great lecture on Astrophysics by Prof. Norris, to a packed room.
This Is all Good

I hope he is flying us all up! I'll be in it if he does!! :poke:

I would love to have a good clear view of Andromeda. I have only seen it once and it was very low in the horizon, but still magnificent.

Hmm ... lets see, grant application reads :
Proposal: Airfares for several dozen Iceinspace members
Justification: All Australian astronomers are entitled to a good view of Andromeda :drink: , It's only the only fair thing to do

I'd love to come up for some of those northern latitude dark skies, Ian!

Maybe I can swing it with a family holiday in 2006 or 2007.

Mike
I would be delighted to host an Iceinspace star party in 2006
Or a visit from your good self & family
If we ever did have an Iceinspace starparty here it is worth bearing in mind that Gove is a stopover on the Cairns-Gove daily jet service
