Suitable Objects.??

Sorry if this has been asked before. Does anyone know of a web link or site that has a list of DSO's which are suitable for viewing with any particular telescope. Example: my scope is a 4.5" reflector and to have a list of objects which would be easily found or suited for this type of telescope would be such a help for someone new to astronomy. A list of DSO's for a 8" dob or a list for a 6" reflector and so on and so on. I hope this all makes sense with what i am asking.

Not sure if I have ever heard of something like that. But I generally figure
out what the limiting mag my scope will work at, then look for targets in that
range. Most astro softs free or otherwise allows you to set this (limiting
magnitude) within the program, you then print charts up...etc...etc... within
the range of your scope.

If your new to the hobby, Messier objects are probably a good place to start
as most are generally fairly bright. And you should be able to nab them with
your 4.5"

Download RTGUI (http://www.rtgui.com) .

It will tell you whats up and visible at any particular time, and you can sort objects by magnitude, object type or many other parameters.

I use it all the time for generating observing lists.

The Southern Sky Guide by Ellyard & Tirion has charts and descriptions for all the brighter objects suitable for small telescopes and binoculars. You can get the latest edition from astronomy shops and other places for $25 or less. Well worth the investment.
