The June 2009 edition of IEEE Spectrum magazine, a publication of the Institute
of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, just arrived in the post and is a special issue
entitled "Why Mars? Why Now?"
It has 71 pages devoted to engineering a journey to the Red Planet, including
stories such as "What to wear on Mars", "What to pack for Mars", "Rockets for
the Red Planet" and "The End of the Cult of the Astronaut".
The hard copy version of the magazine is unfortunately only available by subscription
only, however, some of the stories and additional material appear on the
IEEE Spectrum web site at http://spectrum.ieee.org/static/special-reports
For example, there you can find videos such as "Spectrum goes to Texas and Costa
Rica to see Ad Astra Rocket’s plasma thruster".
