Hello all...
Bit of an imaging drought down here right now - 2 clear early nights turned to thick mist 1-2 images into the session on BOTH nights!!

Managed to grab a couple of single iso1600, f5.6, 10min images of both objects with my new 300mm f4L lens + 1.4x extender (420mm FL).

Wish I had more to show...one day!

Also, larger stars look a bit "splatted" for want of a better word.
I'm using a 72mm Hutech LPS2 filter with a 72-77mm step down ring on the lens and wonder if this is contributing to the splattered star effect!?

Cheers
Doug:thumbsup:

Good work Doug. I like the first one better. I can relate. Massive withdrawal symptoms too here with the weather. Haven't captured a photon in 2 months. :nerd:

Nice Doug but they are showing what I guess are a lot of compression artifacts.

That and heaps of noise too probably Doug - single iso1600 subs!

Nice Dougie I know what you mean by drought but it's that time of the year for us

Cheers

Ironic innit Trev!?
Ambient temperatures cools DSLRs sensors to as close to CCDs as they're ever going to get unaided then weather stops play!
Baahhh!!!!!:P

Hey Doug,

Good to see you giving that lens a workout. Thought the weather might have frozen you over up in the hills. Look forward to a few more exposures.

Love the field's of view with that setup Doug (Fred wouldn't though, it's too wide and balanced )

I see what you mean regarding the stars, considered doing Berts trick and stopping down the front of the lens with cardboard? This dramatically improved his star images with his 300mm lens..?

Nice images Doug. I too like the field of view the lens gives. :)

Must be frustrating having to pack up 1 or 2 images into session, let alone twice!

Well done.

Thanks Craig - no workout as yet just a simple stretch! The 300mm f4L looks very promising!

Meeow!!

Cheers Mike, reckon the step down ring is the cause of the splatted stars!
Shame, lens filter is 77mm, my Hutech LPS2 is 72mm - and that filter has become integral to my setup. May need to upgrade if this lens lives up to it's promise! May have to try Bert's method before taking more drastic monetary steps!!

Cheers Matt, setup and (more so) stripdown are my least favourite parts of imaging anyway, and to have to do them with such little time between is frustrating - only you guys on this forum understand my pain!!!!!!!

Cheers All for the Comments...:thumbsup::thu mbsup:

I know I'm a bit late Doug, but have just come back from a week away, and spotted your latest imaging run, although only brief, :sadeyes:however they came out pretty well I reckon, nice shooting. ;)

Cheers leon - since posting this I've got about 25x10mins RGB on the Lobster, and I'm going to try to get loads of Ha too!
Ever onwards!!!

Awesome FOV... I seem to be a lover of super wide and narrow fields of view... I look forward to seeing these with more data added... Maybe even add in some Ha data for that extra oomph! :)
