I thought I posted a few of my large 20" X 30" pastel lunar sketches a couple weeks ago but the AAA system reports the log to show I have not visited the site here since April 6 2009? Perhaps I am seeing another forum in AAA? I am new here so still learning the format of the site. (I have been featured in the Cloudy nights Forums for about a year in the US.)
My Gallery is at >

Many of you may have seen my images in Spaceweather.com over the past few years and once in Astronomy Picture of the Day.

So if I failed to post here before; I'll try again. These are done from live observation through my 10" Dobsonian hand tracked while sketching. This first one was produced about a week and a half ago when the moon was a waning gibbous phase. The close-up features at the terminator are done first over a 2 hour period, then the whole lunar disc is drawn (here at 10 inches diameter later inside from a photo taken thorugh the eyepiece), finally adding the imaginary artists conception at the surface. The others in stacked order are ascending in previous dates with the exception of the final one, a humorus comic recently done about 3 weeks ago.

Again I am struggling with how to attach the photos, as only a link or as an open image? I am failing to see the posting options for URL or links?? I think I just figured it out? (The final image was done as humor.) Is there a gallery storage space here in AAA? Thanks for any advice
best regards,
-Mark

Top stuff – the tones, “cool feel” and the overall luminous quality of the 2nd one really grabs my attention – great work and well done for all of them!

Cheers

Dennis and Al

Thanks for your kind words. I was not sure where to post sketch art. Is there a special section or forum here for sketching?

Thanks for any further info,

Mark

Hi mark

Your sketches are fantastic. I see you've worked out how to attach images. They just have to be under 200kb.

At the moment there is no "gallery" section for members astrophotography, but it's a feature coming in the future.

Excellent work, keep posting.

(btw, the correct acronym for the site is "IIS" (IceInSpace). Australian Amateur Astronomy (or AAA as you're referring to it) is just a sub-title :) )

Cheers

Thanks for the kind commendations. Yes I finally figured out the attachment process. I like the way your site shows the thumbnails and then opens to a black field.

I'll post some more recent ones, as they ascend in chronology now. *They are from left to right, 1) The Lunar-Venus Occultation as seen over Portland, 2) An imaginary scene of the Lunar-Venus Occultation a day before the event- Posted in NASA's Spacewather.com on May 21st 2009, 3) Grimaldi Crater observed with light shaft through 10" Dobsonian at high magnification, then artists conception at surface below rendered as first lunar landscape from Early February 2009, 4) Gibbous moon with Saturn from Autumn 2008, 5) Saturns rings viewed edge-on in December 2008 *(all pastel formats are approximately 20" X 25") All are on black pastel paper with the exception of the Lunar Saturn conjunction on a dark blue ridgeline paper.

Very nice sketches indeed.

I never tire of looking at the Moon. You have captured it well.

Keep it up.

Thanks Geoff and Jen, for the kind words.

I am wondering if any others here 'down under', do sketching. Is there a special place that they would post sketching? Thanks for any info,

Best regards,

Mark
