Hi all,

Here is last night's conjunction of the Moon and Jupiter, at about 10:30 as the 2 were rising. There was a bit of smoke around, giving the Moon a nice yellow colour. In this image I've combined 2 exposures in PS7, to get both detail on the Moon and also show Jupiter's moons (Io, Ganymede and Callisto from top to bottom). With the glare from the Moon I was unable to capture Neptune as well, but it's somewhere in this field.

Cheers,
Stephen

Thats great Stephen!! What camera setting did you use, so that the Moon didnt even wash out Jupiter's moons??

Thanks Liz, David and Petra.

Liz,
I used the 300mm lens at f/5.6 for both shots. For the Moon, it was a 1/250 sec exposure at 400 iso, and for Jupiter it was a 1.5 sec exposure at 800 iso. For the Jupiter image I adjusted the black level a bit to remove glare from the Moon, before combining this with the Moon image.

Cheers,
Stephen

Nice job Stephen,

Love the colour of the Moon, each time of late, that I have given presentations to school groups I am reminded of the work you are doing and how very appropriate it would be for secondary school aged students to become involved in similar projects.

Excellent work
