I am after an extension cable for my Canon Cable release....

I have the canon 20DA and the canon TC-80N3 timer cable release..this comes with a 3 ft lead standard.....I want an extension lead around 3 metres.....You can by a 10 metre extension cable for $130 but thats way to expensive and way to long for my needs.

So if anyone can make me one let me know.

What type of plugs are on each end?
Maybe if the plugs are obtainable and you send down your original so I can work out the pinout I might able to help.

Can you post a pic of the plugs on each end showing the pin arrangement?

Yep it says that the connector is proprietry and not obtainable from other sources.

Unless the connectors on both ends can be disassembled and the wires able to be soldered, the only option is to cut the cable and join in a length of cable to make the length that you want. The result will be functional, just not pretty.

I was thinking of Geoffs idea, cut the cable and add what length of wire you need to the middle. All depends on if you like your cable release or not :)

Tony, Did you scroll to the bottom of the Canon N3 connector page? There's a link to the mod I think you want??? "Canon schematic", 'How to make your own Pw cable'. Not sure if it's what you require. HTH. :D L.
ps. Otherwise.... as above--------^^^

Aaaaarrrh isn't it nice how these companies make cables with proprietry
connectors/plugs then charge some rediculous price for what is essentially
a pretty cheap cable. Although it isn't pretty Geoff's idea you'll find is about
the only alternative.

Have a look here http://www.deep-sky.co.uk/dslr/dslr.htm

Someone has made a conversion using a 2.5mm stereo plug. Just scroll down the page until you see the Pentax mod.

Cheers

Thanks guys.....I will consider everything thats been said.

I'm not that thrilled in having to cut into my existing cable but if that my only option besides purchasing a canon extension I may give it a go...well not me.

With some heat shrink tube, some careful soldering it will look pretty good.

It's an easy job, Tony. Only 2 wires & screen. Give it a go. :poke: :P :D L.
