Eta Carinae Nebula..... After looking at the magnificent photo of this nebula posted by Peter Ward I decided to give it another go while I wait for my new scope ta arrive.
The temprature in the observatory was -1 degree C so cooling wasn't a problem.

I actually shot 9X 20min exposures and IP on an auto grade kept 8 of them. No darks or other calibration files were used. Too bloody cold out there to take them.

I was very happy with the performance of my G11 after I cleaned and regreased the mount last week. Guiding was very good, in fact way better than the last image I took with it.

Seeing was not as good as I had hoped with some atmospheric shimmer, even with 1/2m of snow on all the hills around me.

Telescope Vixen VC200L at 1800mm
Camera QHY8 cooled OSC
Guided using PHD and QHY5 through a ED80.

Happy with the result tonight but will see tomorrow.

Thanks for looking.

Doug, that's a great image mate. There is a dust bunny on the left that draws the eye straight to it, but it looks like cloning it out would be much less fuss than applying flats.

Beaut colour.

A lovely capture Doug, I like the colour too, similar to what I got a few months ago.
I think it's very pleasing.

Well done mate.

Thanks Barry. I didn't notice it at first but have fixed it in the light of day.

Thanks Andrew, The longer subs have made a real diference to the S?N ratio and made processing a lot easier. Glad you liked it.

Long subs worked well on this one. We can see the improvement with each image now. Well done!!

Look forward to seeing more

Long subs no darks and no noise, the super cold temp with the cooled QHY8 really paid off.
Lovely shot there Doug.

Cheers Daniel.

Ah but at -1 at least the sky was nice and clear.
Great to catch up to you both while you were up this way.

Thanks Daniel, Yes the cooled camera certainly makes a big diference when shooting longer exposure images.
