I went walking along the Routeburn Track and was lucky enough to have witnessed the first snow fall of the season. The scene around me looked like something out of Narnia.

Unfortunately, I did not have the correct hiking gear for the weather and so I turned around and started walking back to the beginning of the track. On my way down, I encountered some of the most beautifully-filtered light I have ever seen.

I made this photograph just before the light show finished in a gorgeous little section which had a bit of a clearing that I thought would help give me depth to the scene.

Slightly higher resolution found here (http://users.tpg.com.au/octane2/rff.html).

Jeanette,

I know exactly what you mean. I've set it as my desktop image one of my desktops at work (the other one has my Queenstown/Remarkables image).

It is calming to look at. :)

Thank you for looking and the kind comment.

Regards,
Humayun

Very nice Humayun. That forest near the start of the Routeburn is a beautiful area isn't it!

Cheers,
Stephen

I wish I didn't have to work so I could join you on such treks mate. I like the composition. Keep 'em coming.

Baz.

Stephen,

Thanks. I made two compositions in this region; one vertical and one horizontal. The horizontal version didn't work as it had a little too much going on. And, yes, it is a stunning area. I was so privileged to have seen the first snow fall of the season.

Barry,

This, as well as all the other shots I've posted recently, were made on my recent trip to the south island of New Zealand. We, unfortunately, don't have scenery like this locally. If you know of any places, let me know!

Thanks again, Jeanette, Stephen and Barry, I'm glad you enjoyed the image.

Humayun
