Great Ocean Road

My sister from Brisbane was down here about 3 weeks ago and went for a helicopter joy flight over the Great Ocean Road/Port Cambell area.

Here are the shots she emailed me today.

In the foreground of pic 1 is the crumpled reamins of one of the 12 Apostles that recently collapsed. There are only 8 of the original apostles left.

Yes Tony, there was originally 12. That's why they called them the Apostles.

Unfortunately, photos don't show the sheer magnitude of the cliff faces. They are very high!!

Mike, I had read quite a bit on shipwrecks in the area before going and found that it enhanced the experience. I was about to repost that shot but you found the thread. Make sure you allow a whole day, more if you have any significant distance to drive. We started our day at Apollo Bay by climbing to the lookout then journeyed on to the 12 Apostles.

Also if you are a bit of an aviation buff you can take peek at (or a joy flight in) a tiger moth on the way. http://www.tigermothworld.com/index.htm The day I went past the weather was really rough and these guys were still flying.

Mike, lot's of people take photos from this popular vantage point. Even the postcard pics are taken from there. But everywhere looks amazing in the area. Phil would agree!

At least in Phils pic the Apostle in the foreground was still standing.
