Anyone know anything bout fridges ?

Had a shocking weekend with appliances this weekend . Got home friday and the fridge wasnt working anymore , freezer is fine but the fridge is warm. Its five years old a Fisher and paykel model. I pulled it apart and the fan was working but just not cold grrrrrrrr and noone can come out and look at it with it being a long weekend .Warm beer sucks :mad2:

Then to top it off , i just got the laptop back on friday after the comp techs put in a new hard drive and saturday morning it just died . Turned off and now its completely dead , wont turn on at all , even the start up lights dont work :( . :help:

if one half if working and the other isnt, its most likely the heater has had it. The same thing happened to mine a few years back i bought the part and replaced it myself , it set me back around $200.

If the fridge compartment was cooling but was not able to get down to the recommended and/or set level of 4 degrees, check that your freezer compartment isn’t iced over “under the covers”.

This did happen to our (frost free!) F&P 450L upside down fridge and we simply defrosted the freezer and that fixed the problem 100%.

Our analysis was that we had too much weight in the door compromising the seal and this allowed moist air to enter so over a longish period, so hidden ice built up around the freezer compartment and this fooled the fridge compartment into thinking it was colder.

Take the battery out of the laptop and put it back in and try powering up the laptop again.
Check to see if the battery is charging. If not it’s either the power supply or MB that’s away.
As for F&P I had a fridge of that make that and it died after 2 days. Would not touch them again.

i think it mite be the thermostat because it is not resetting once the temperature is reached.a thermostat is like a switch in operation it is closed until the required temp is reached then it opens to stop the process until it warms up again then it will close, thus i think it is your thermostat. but ask some one with more knowledge to confirm.

My father was a white goods field technician for 20+ years, although he didn't really touch fridges (he mainly did washing machines, dishwashers). I can ask him what he thinks if you'd like. I'd ay it's the thermostat myself, but make sure it's all cleared of ice etc. Check the seal too. It could be the compressor as well, if it's under powered it won't have enough juice to cover the entire internal volume. Can you hear the compressor going?

We had a similar problen (different make and model). being the freezer okay but the fridge not cooling. The guy thought it was the heater and he replaced it - still no go. So he replaced the thermostat. Bugger still not cold. After a bit of thinking and getting the poos with 'the fridge guy' my dad and I pulled out the switch from the fridge door and I replcaed it. Aha! It went like a little beauty after that.

This is probably not the problem with yours, but you never know.

Yup when it first played up last week i made sure i checked if it was blocked up with ice , and it was , but not now , clear as anything . It does keep making a beeping noise , which lol i guess means i need a technician , > Its gotta be either the thermostat or the compresser i guess ........ grrrrrrrrrr but the fans now not going either ...... so could be bloody anything ... could even be a computer problem thing ...

and as for the laptop , yup tried the taking the battery out and just using the power supply and still no good , not a light , or beep at all from it :(

Its amazing how much u miss your fridge and laptop , the wife got the new sims 3 on friday and isnt too keen on me taking over her computer :lol:

Yup dave i sure can hear something going on in there , im assuming the humming noise is the compressor

Yes, the humming should be the compressor. I wonder if it's the cooling piping (i.e a blockage) perhaps? Could be a lot of things, possible a sensor, thermostat, compressor issues, very hard to say. I know enough about fridges to be dangerous lol!

Could be a number of things.

Itll cost you about 75 bucks an hour for a look, then there is the call out fee, could also be 75 bucks. If its a leak, can take hours to find, a fan motor will cost you 150 bucks, a comp, 3-4 hundred and on it goes.

Youre up to 500 bucks before you know it.

Save your money, buy a new one.

Ok , the technician just been and the problem was not the compressor not the thermostat not the fan not anything too technical , the problem was my wife :rolleyes: Ok last week i asked her to defrost the freezer , which she did admirably.With a hairdryer . However the fridge still wasnt gettin cold . On inspection the technician found that my dear lovely wife had melted ,:eyepop: yes melted the side of the freezer hence ensuring the freezer cover wouldnt seal and couldnt send cold air back up into the fridge part . :doh:

$75 bux for the technician
$1,000 + for a new fridge
