Canon 20Da with 100mm F2 lense piggyback

I got back from my work trip today...2200 km's and 2.5 days later.

I only got about an hour and half to do some widefield imaging with my travel setup last night...the conditions were not ideal due to all the burning off they were doing in the area. I was just outside Gladstone only 8k'm west of the Bruce HWY...even so it was still 200% better then Brisbane.

I didn't have time to do long exposure's as I was a like a kid in candy store..I just wanted to scan the sky taking 1 minute exposure's then move on....I was very excited at what I could get with just 1 x 1 minute exposure..

The 100mm F2 lense is real quick...I was a shocked how much quicker the exposures were when it was sett to F2 then F2.8.

So all below pictures are just 1 x 1 minute exposure at 1600 ISO....nothing to exciting to show you but I would have loved to concentrate on a single target all night....

Obvioulsy no stacking just run it through Photshop with auto level then severely cropped and Compressed for forum guide lines....I have lost a fair bit of quality detail due to the high compression....but it will do.

1 minute exposures!? Look at that detail! What mount was it on?

The SMC shot is awesome, and look at the galaxies in that 4th shot!

And that last shot is stunning and sharp. Wow.. How much did you say those 20da's were? :)

Nice shots Tony. The piggyback is THE way to go sometimes huh? I'm like Ice, keen to hear of the bits and bobs that assisted.

EQ5 with Meade drives and Autostar..

The camera sitting on top of the Orion ED 80.

Due to my lack of time available..I didn't do a polar align..just pointed in the general direction...I also couldn't get it down to 23.5degrees needed as the external motors were in the way...so it was just all a point a shoot...hope it all works out....lol

What attachments are needed to piggy back the camera to the scope? could you post a pic of that set-up?

I purchased the skywatcher tube rings for the ED 80...only about $40...ontop of these rings has Screw that fits my camera.

I will take a picture...but I want something even more stable...this 1 and only bolt is not sufficent for me...I want more support.

Great stuff I love wide field... and I know that feeling of kid in a candy store. and my set up is similar (80 x 400 ar same rings hold it on the 150sn and I use the same camera mount) One of my favorite areas Lagoon to M7

I wouldn't say excellant...but I am happy with what it can produce with only 1 x 1 minute exposure.....next time I will try to hold back my excitement and impatience and work on 1 or 2 targets with multiple longer exposures.

Not entirely sure Trevor...maybe a DIY job but I do know they sell a camera adapter at Star Optics but unsure what you get and fittings needed...I will find out this week.

Tony this works really well for me http://www.dcity.com.au/store/product.asp?idProduct=1704 (I have the smaller version). Though I didn't like mounting it straight to the tube rings.

I found a piece of flat aluminimum long enough to reach over both guide rings and 40 mm wide and 6mm thick, bought a couple of phillips head screws with the same thread as the ring camera bolt, and a couple of washers and nuts to fit and connected the aluminium between the guide rings with the manfrotto ball mount in the middle. Works a treat. You don't even need to have the holes in the aluminium plate lined up properly. Just drill a couple of holes and bolt it on.

BTW the smaller version of the manfrotto is the 484RC2 Miniball head and is about $100 from Camera House. You could probably pick it up cheaper at centre.net
