Looking out across Lake Wanaka, on a slightly overcast morning, the first rays of pure light bathe the snow-capped peak of Mount Aspiring.
This photograph was made about 8km out of the main township of Wanaka.
Slightly higher resolution version available here (http://users.tpg.com.au/octane2/tcd.html).

Looks very nice H.. Its fantastic seeing the light hit the peak of a mountain before the sun has broken the horizon...
It would be interesting to see the scene in HDR, although with how quickly the lighting changes just on dawn, it might be very difficult to capture enough frames..
Great work as usual H..

Beautifully captured Humayun! Very nice.
One comment though: I think you might have labelled it incorrectly. I could be wrong, but I think this is actually Treble Cone. Mt Aspiring would have been a bit further to the right. See the images below, which I took about 10 years ago. The first is Treble Cone (taken from near where you took yours?), and the second is the Matterhorn-like peak of Mt A. in the distance.
Cheers,
Stephen

Alex,
Thank you! Agreed, there's nothing like that pure light first thing in the AM. Unfortunately, most of us are usually asleep or on the way to work to appreciate it.
I bracketed this shot as well, but, I think it was only +/- 1 in each direction. I should be able to whip something up for you for comparison. Gimme a little bit. :)
Stephen,
Man, do I feel like a gumby or what. I can't believe I thought that was Mount Aspiring. I will have to change the title of the shot now. :)
Thanks for picking me up on that. Just last week I went through the hall of fame for the monthly photo competition and was looking at your wonderful image and remarking how gorgeous it looked.
Thanks again!
Regards,
Humayun
