Many people in USA were robbed because they left the message on Twitter or Facebook that they will be away, the police say.

I saw this on channel seven Sunrise news this morning.

So, BEWARE!

cheers

Why are people so stupid that they feel they have to share every facet of their lives in open forums etc .... maybe they will learn that the world isn't full of lovely, friendly people ... only IIS

What about the loss in productivity across the industrialised world?

I'm not on F*c*b**k, Tw*tt*r or any of the other social networking sites.

Rightfully, these sites are blacklisted at work.

Agreed I heard a guy at work talking too a tradesman on the phone the other day about doing some work at his house

"Well I can't get there until after such and such and my wifes working till such and such and no ones home"

People and more so young people these days are sometimes just too free with personal data without thinking of the consequences.

Just recently I saw add here on IIS for complete astrophotography setup, worth more than 3.5 grand. The guy said he is going on holiday for 2 weeks so please send him PM’a but don’t expect him to reply till he gets back.
Well, maybe he is taking his gear with him on holiday, maybe not. But what about his plasma TV and the rest of things. Unfortunately, and this is a fact, most of the robberies are committed from someone we know, or they know us.
Twitter and facebook are probably the most popular ones. But that doesn’t mean the other forums are free from danger. Most of the forums are accessible to read without registering, including this one.
Don’t want to sound paranoid but where else you can even see what other people have. Personally I love topics like: “Show us you equipment” which is BTW sticky. But someone with evil mind might see this as great “shopping list”.

Considering that most of us (including myself) display our exact co-ordinance of where we live to the arc second in our Public Profiles, we all have a lot to learn.

There is the option to only show your position to the nearest arc minute. That covers a lot of houses.

(BTW Mr Thief, my gear is pretty awful. The mirror is tarnished, the tube is dented, the mount wobbles and the eyepieces are covered in crud. :D)
