2nd June Jupiter and Europa

got some images of Jupiter and Europa shadow transit this morning, in calm conditions with slight jetstream present.

I just processed some more avis, but the images didn't produce any finer detail. So the image posted seems to be as good as it gets, for now.

Nice image Lester,
The GRS and Europa shadow look great and there seems to be a fair amount of very fine underlying detail that just needs a slight improvement in the seeing to be fully visible.

The latest Jet Stream map looks good for tonight and tomorrow morning, depending on any local cloud cover.

Thanks for the reply Trevor. The clouds don't look to be a problem now; but showers are forcast for the next 4 days.

Trevor, I just had a look at the jetstream map I use, and it doesn't look good for at least the next 4 days.

I tried to copy the link into here, but it didn't work. Its called GFS forcast of 200mb streamlines and isotachs.

Hi Lester

Once you select your region - Australia followed by South Australia - I believe the default map display is for 'total cloud'. You can select other weather parameter options from the menu above the map, which include: low, mid and upper level cloud, Seeing, Transparency, Dewing Risk, Wind Speed, Temperature, Jetstream, Pressure(MSL), and WBGT.

You can also select +6, +9, +12, +15hrs, etc.. to view weather parameter conditions up to +120 hrs. You will see the local time in the map.

I find Skippysky quite reliable and is based on US global data that Andrew cool has visualized. But read his disclaimer. You will see that from midnight tonight through the morning (+15 - +24) there is apparently good seeing (total cloud) and somewhat favorable jetstream - interesting to see if this will be the case. But this is for Adelaide and I know you are over on EP.

Andrew is an ASSA member and I undersand that he monitors and updates skippysky several times a day but he did send round a recent e-mail mesage to ASSA members informing us that skippysky will be unattended until Saturday night as he will be away.

Good seeing Steve, but lots of cloud to boot, got up and clouded out. The best jet stream maps that I think are getting around are the unisys site ( http://weather.unisys.com/gfs/12h/gfs_4panel_12h_aus.html ) and the 200mb site ( http://wxmaps.org/pix/aus.jet.html ). Skippy sky is reasonable on the jet stream but can be a little unreliable. Its cloud forcasts are spot on though. Andrew and I have been discussing the jet stream stuff for a couple of months. He has a friend who is a meteorologist too and there are diverse opinions to the prediction of the jet stream.

That said Lester, this is a pretty reasonable image of Jupiter given the jet stream and cloud activity of late. Lots of cloud is creating problems. Every time I set up the cloud comes in at present. Just waitin it out now.

Yes Steve, the DFK does do a good job, and it will be a while before I get the DMK and filters working, plus learning the processing of RGB avis.

I recently acquired a second hand DBK21 with UV/IR block baader filter. I have not had an opportunity to use it yet but might have to PM you for some tips when I finally get started.
