Hark, I see a sunspot group on the MDI continium image on the IIS home page! The first I can recall seeing in I can't remember how long. For those of us without H-alpha filters, the surface has been as smooth as a baby's bottom for ages.
It will be interseting to keep watching and see if this is the end of the current solar minimum.
If it's fine next saturday, I might even get out my 'scope and stabdard solar filter and have a look.

Great, I've been looking forward to showing my grandkids a sunspot. Have to dig out the filter tomorrow, 80mm is already on the mount as a guide scope so just a matter of putting it on and popping in an eyepiece. :)

Not according to the front page article of BinTel NightSky publication for May.
There are two small ones visible at the moment , Clouds permitting.
