I am crazy we all accept that so I have decided to live on a boat for a while.... but I am no longer worried about the seas rising. This is the before shot.

Hi,
That is not crazy, it's ideal. Where will it be, within reach of a pier to set up a scope on? Are you cruising or mostly becalmed? :P

That looks like Pittwater, or possibly Middle Harbour, are you picking her up from there?
She looks like she needs some TLC, but don't they all ! Welcome to the world of never ending bills!
There's nothing better than spending time on the water, you can forget the troubles of the world and just appreciate what nature has to offer.
Well done Alex, I hope you have many good times with her.
Cheers,
Jason.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone.
Yes its at Pittwater.
I have just about given up hope of getting any astronomy in my life...if it is not raining I seem to be busy of an evening this year with other matters.
Still I will have the 80mm binos and for me I like them more than the 12 inch...but it will be on shore for that...
I plan repairing it and running around the Hawkesberry for a while and then take it North... lady friend offerred to crew as did my X so thats an unexpected turnup.
But I want to get up to the reef for a look around do some diving maybe..I used to when I was young...
anyways if you are after a boat now is the time..they have never been so cheap I got this for one fifth what the owner paid four odd years ago..it has gone down in condition admittedly but once this sort of boat would not even get to market it would sell to a freind etc...so thanks ecomonic crisis ...

Its timber, cutter rig, lotsa rot, motor seized, red sails (I always wanted red sails) and 6 foot head room..at 26 it is perfect for me..very roomy and great live aboard unit.. I should call it after Dr Who's phone box as it seems bigger inside..er down below that is...

I have one of below.

She looks solid Alex. Doesn't seem like you'll be going anywhere too fast, but that's hardly the point if you're cruising. Should be quite manageable in a bit of wind with the longer keel and extra weight I expect.
Be interesting to see some more pics in the future to make us all envious....! :)

Nice Alex,
Who needs to burn money on Astro Gear when you can do that with a boat?
I think the "Tardis" is a great name for your time travelling device. Or maybe if you are turning back the time, call it "Sidrat" :)
Just a thought.
Congrats....

Hmnnnnn well, I can see you have a chess board nailed to the wall, so I guess I better brush up. I can smash you in caged fighting so now it's a gentleman’s game of chess on the deck catching the cool afternoon sea breeze drinking Merlot and to Hell with the world and its woes

Thanks Rob but the emotion I think is appropriate is pity for me rather than envy or like things this will be a case of you get out of it what you put in..man there is so much work I really wonder if I am doing the right thing.
In time I hope to get it to Brisbane and moor it at Harbourside (just on the uth side of the storey bridge) for a holiday in Brisbane.

I would like to change its name but being so old I dont know..if I do it would be "MIDDY 3" (Its a Middy cause it is not a schooner) as previous boats were called so...
The funny thing given how I have my name backwards this boat has the name of I think it was the designers wife spelt backwards... so it is ment to be.

Well there is no one alive who has beaten me Ron and that goes for the chess as well;)... hows about each time you lose a man on the board you have to drink one glass:rolleyes:... or if we want to go handicapped the person who takes the man drinks the wine:P...
Life seems rather cool down that neck of the woods ..pretty ladies, nice cars, houses boats I hope I can adjust.

Ohh your friend and your X both. I'd go below and work on the motor ;) sorry ladies only jesting. :D:whistle:
Where did you dive? I'm an old decrepit scuba diver myself and often sit with a glass and dream about it.
Keep us informed, you can get more than moral support sometimes.
Cheers

Geoff there is no way I would go with the two of them:scared:... they dont like each other for some reason ... I call her lady friend to be polite and so no one thinks I am a woman hater;).... But she has sailed all over the world and had a 40 ft cat and a 45 ft cat and can navigate and cook and tell me astrology stuff :P.... I just turn off and look interested as they say:).
I have only dived along the NSW coast from Bondi down to Kiama but not with tanks ..er once with tanks...
Paid the cash over today ..but its like a dam house transaction..exchange an agreement owner has to sign stuff and I dont get to really own it until I get the paper work..tomorrow maybe... got a few things sorted today but wow its a job...
I plan going up river for a while maybe all the way up to Wisemans ...
Its funny when I was a wage slave I wanted to get an old boat and trade my paintings at Palm Beach or similar places for a sack of flour or whatever ... you know present as a bit of a character so folk can say of their new art to their dinner guests.."OH yes darling we got that from a strange old chap down the Hawkesberry he traded it for 25 litres of fuel you know" " he looked about 105 yrs old but was still able to out drink George".... folk like to have stories about things they buy and I figured it really could work...still I may be too busy:whistle:.
