It's been a while since we have taken any images due to having everything dismantled whilst building our ROR observatory.

At last it's completed !!! :):) ( except for lining)

We had our first chance on Monday to set everything up - alignment collimation focus and guiding. We finally had a small window before moonrise so this is only 7 x 8min lights stacked with 7 x 8min darks.

So nice and easy finishing the lights then just close the roof and set up for darks. All done nothing to pack up then off to bed. Wow it's great :party:

So here is M8 Lagoon Nebula

Canon 40D unmodded Celestron C 9.25 f6.3

7 x 8min ISO800

Full frame at f6.3

Now we need another clear night and hopefully get 20-30 subs which should give us more detail.

Larger size on website below.

Very nice first image from the obs.
I'm jealous of you ROR guys!!
Although I've got the gear strip-down in the wee hours down to a fine art, the luxury of your setup is still very appealing!!!

I'm sure this new "toy" will increase your productivity significantly.
Cheers
Doug:thumbsup:

Thanks Paul

Would have really liked to get more subs, but the cloud and then the moon rising gave us a limited window.

I found it was one of the best moves I had made, having your own Obs makes astronomy *so much* easier, accessible, and enjoyable.

Congratulations!

The setting up of the scope and equipment was really getting to be a chore Doug. The obs took quite some time to build but it sure was worth it. Just have to rely on more clear skies to help increase that productivity

Thanks Jeanette it makes things a bit more comfortable during the colder weather

Thanks Ron

Thanks for the comments Fred much appreciated

Glad you like it Baz

Thanks Frank took me a long time to build the obs and I look forward to many more all nighters

Thanks Peter. Yes just roll the roof off choose an object and fire away

Nice image. I like the obs too. Maybe the inside linings need doing so you can keep the stud work dry over the coming years (just looked on your website). All looks good though. Well done.

Great image and FANTASTIC observatory. I have not imaged for going on 9 months now ... waiting for the ROR to finally came around. 3 hrs of setting up, drift aligning then putting away grows thin after awhile ... especially once Id mastered the aligning processes etc ... I cant wait until this moment arrives for me ... I am at the very least jealous and covet your observatory. GREAT JOB ... ENJOY

Thanks for the comments Humayun. I guess we all want an obs and it's taken us a long time to build ours so you will eventually do the same sometime :)

Thanks Greg just this one night and all the work has bean wirthwhile

Not sure about the mugshots lookin' good Clive but we thought it was time to join the rest of the gang

The lining is underway Paul. Just had a breather from the hard yakka for a few days :)

It seemed like it would never be finished Jeff. Then once the roof frame was underway things seemed to come together a bit faster. Good luck with your project

Great stuff guys.
The observatory looks great. Did you design and build it yourselves?
I would love to have the convenience of just leaving everything set up.

Nice work on the image too, all looks good.;)

Cheers Daniel.

Really making life easier already Doug. By the way we're heading up your way for a few days first week in June hope the weather's good :)

Took me 6 months to build Werner but worth every bit of the time spent

Glad you liked the image Daniel.

I did design the observatory myself. As mentioned before it took me 6 months to build on my own. Slow going with extreme heat and bushfires during summer then rainy days but all finished now thank goodness.

There's a progressive page on our website if you're interested in taking a look. You may get some ideas ;)

Pleased I didn't miss this one. Well done Barb and David. The obs should boost image output and quality. Saving time on the set up will allow you to focus on more important aspects instead of wrestling with equipment each night. You've provided a grand image to boot. Nicely done indeed.

Glad you caught it Jase :)
The obs sure does save time we get up and running pretty quickly. Have a couple of more objects to process which we captured on Thursday and Friday after I put in two all nighters :zzz2:Barb chickened out and went to bed around 3am

If I can build one you sure can Doug - When does construction start

Thanks Steve

Thanks Ric, Barb did a nice job of processing on this image.

The observatory has certainly made imaging more enjoyable with a permanent set up.

so who rules this roost? excellent results on the observatory guys

Tamtarn
27-05-2009, 09:57 PM
David, if the roost is the obs then my ruling is safe, at least until Barb sees this post.

Glad you like the obs, it took some time to complete as I had never built anything like this before.

29-05-2009, 05:53 PM
Come to think of it, after looking at your site again, and the care and detail youve put into the Obs and the improvement shown in your M8, I hope your next move is a Mod by Ezy Styles at least, or even a CCD in the long term, I think you would produce even more awesome results very quickly.

Thanks Glen pleased you enjoyed it

Thanks mate for the positive comments.

Unfortunately we won't be changing our gear for a while as having just completed the obs and just purchased a new power source and took delivery today of our "Star Stuff" saddle plate and customised C9.25 dovetail plate. ( A beautifully engineered set up by the way ).

We're doing everything we can to eliminate flexure and we think this set up will have a great influence on doing just that. (will post on equip discussions soon)

So our budget has been streeetched to the limit at the moment. Maybe we will venture further sometime next year but at this stage we will just try to get the most out of the gear we have now :)
