A few Lum shots May19-20

Hi,

A few good shots tonight in between very high , thin cloud.
The most frustrating type of cloud because it forms from
nowhere! :)

Seeing was excellent, I can apply Laplacian sharpening
usually only when it's this good.

I agree with Dave, 5128 looks fantastic!! You've definitely taken a better M83 before, but given the conditions, its a good shot...

Have you ever considered taking all your M83 subs that you've taken and doing a stack of upwards of 1000 frames? Might be worth exploring as you've no doubt got heaps of data lying about if you save it all like I do... :)

I'm going to give 5128 a go with my setup and HEAPS of 30sec subs to see what I can do...

I have thought of doing this Alex, yes.
The problem is, most of the above average results have enough
difference mainly because of the seeing that it might actually
work against me.
I tried 3 of my best M83s a while back and in a stack of
over 500 frames the result was no better than the best of the 3.:shrug:






I can't offer suggestions guys, sorry.
Too many variables between your gear and mine.
I can only say (from a highly non technical DS beginner viewpoint)
that the biggest factors in my reasonable success here seem to be:

1. a big mirror with F5 optics and a new surface.
2. A cold camera with a very sensitive mono ccd
3. Combination of 1 and 2 gives a good arc sec/pixel size
4. damn good seeing
5. good tracking/no motor vibration (Bartels Stepper drive)

As above, I got some RGB tonight:

RGB 50 frames each x 10 sec
added this to the May 19 M83 luminosity
as a LLRGB mix.

It's very hard to stop the colour data from
drowning out the detail in the lum shot.

Hi,

Really enjoying these DSI shots. They are absolute rippers.

Interesting that the multiple short subs has done so well with centaurus A.The result looks very smooth and there is plenty of detail. Did you use all the subs or did you select the best ones?

Also were you using Drizzle and what software were you using for your processing?

RGB is a bit so so....but I'm working on it.
NGC 5128 was a 500 frame set, 254 were handpicked from that.

No drizzle, don't need it. Nebulosity.
