just a few frames (54 min) i plugged the secondary heater into the wrong socket.... doh. fogged up after that.

one of the last shots with the 12 inch newt, will be letting it go in a week or two.

qhy8, 12 inch newt, g11 mount, 6 min exposures.

stretched , decon, saturation, noise removal, contrast masking.. done , not enough exposures to really do much

You've got great detail there. All those little filaments of dust.

Nicely done Clive. Don't you just hate those bugs that catch us out from time to time. So frustrating :mad2:

Very nice Clive. I prefer the wider field you get with the QHY8 than the DSI II field on this object.

I'm looking forward to receiving my Parracor so I can use the 400D with the 10" newt.

A fine image Clive.

Looks very good. You got the blue star forming region on the edge of the dust lanes alright and contrast is very good. Nicely done.

thanks all for looking, maybee i should keep using the big scope...... nah

jjj its an interesting situation, you expose longer for a deeper image and you seem to lose some of the dust, just as well these were only short.

tamtarn, yep frustrating, i readjusted the balance on the scope and unplugged everything but didnt check it was right when i put it back together.... next time.

peter i saw you pic with the tighter framing, i dont have goto so i would find that field of view challenging.

sj thanks, hoping to do more soon.

multiweb, i havent donemuch research , but as an interacting galaxy the disturbance seems to have created a lot of , what i presume are large stars probably blue supergiants ( if any one knows more let me know)

thanks guys

Excellent job Clive.

Lovely colours but not quite as sharp as I'd like and the stars are too square...ah huh! you need a 5" medium FL APO mate! :D

Nice image.

I agree with Mike you'll get nicer looking stars with your APO though.

Hi Clive,
Great photo. I am thinking and saving to move from my Canon 400d to a dedicated cooled ccd camera such as the QHY8. For about $2500 i can't see that I can go wrong. Are you happy with it as I would use it on my Williams Optics Flt 110 refractor?

im intereted to see if it does, there does seem to be some concensus amongst the better imagers as most seem to own one (not all though). would have liked 6 inches but out of my leauge at double the price.

time will tell. i will be aiming at doing less objects , but those i do better, which means no more one night stands and pop an image out.

mark... i'll send PM

Yes APOs are extremely expensive. But then RC type scopes are also very expensive. A smaller aperture APO will do a better job on wide field.
Aperture rules when doing galaxies though.

well its installed and running, will see if it brings up the goods. the galaxy in this post is the LAST image with aperture (12 inch ) for me, 5 will do just fine for now.

THE 12 INCH HAS RETIRED. !!!!!

paul thanks for your comments

Very nice Clive. I expect you will miss the 12" but the new beast should produce a nice image.

A fitting image for the departure of the 12" Clive. Looking forward to seeing what you'll come up with using the APO given sampling is different between the two, thus you'll need to handle the data differently.
