Thanks for that tip Mike. This is @ 424X (7.5mm barlowed) In the 12.5" reflector. Kodak easyshare camera. Pity about the soft focus. I got fogged out, otherwise I would have got more frames. These are about 40 stacked frames.

I've learnt 1 valuable lesson this morning.
I don't need that aperture mask on mars if I image @ 424X :D
Fogs GONE!!

They are great pics John! And with a Kodak!! My Kodak can't do shots like that. That's what gets frustrating, seeing but not recording.
Tony, yes in 4 weeks time Mars is the closest it will be for another 10 years. Funny how that coincides with the Star Camp.

Hi Ken. Thanks, I'm quite amazed what this little camera is accomplishing. Considering it was never designed for this type of work, it's doing great! I'm after orion tonight. If it's better seeing than last night I'll be after mars again as well. Can't wait for saturn. Just before sun-up it's behind a tree, damn it! 3 maybe 4 weeks wait till high enough for me.
Enjoy your toucam when it arrives mate!

Ta John. I will finally be able to get some proper pics too.
It's got me tossed though how David was able to pull that finished shot out of your pics. The polar caps are so obvious!!

I'ts a new proggy he's been toying with. Can't remember it's name now. I was in the market for a toucam but now I'm not sure I ever need one.

Thanks John. There seems to be a lot of programs to use with a Toucam. Your Kodak certainly does take good pics. I hope you get some great shots in 4 weeks time when Mars is up close & personal.

Whoh! Your getting good with that astraimage proggy too! I have'nt tried it as yet, I'm still being sensory-overloaded from registax....Just breaking into new territory with the wavelet section at the mo.
I'm still picking my jaw up off the floor after spotting Steves mars & uranus moon thread!! Now initiating destruct sequence of asimovs mars photo's......5......4.......3...... 2........1...............

To cut a very long story short, I reckon I'm at my feasible maximum mag now Dave. It takes my 5-10 mins to get mars in the camera screen as it is I get 20 mins of battery power on the camera..No doubt I have to concentrate more so on perfect alignment of the finder versus the camera view.. I was thinking of dropping back to about 350X to make it easier. @ 400 + mag everything is REAL touchy, one tiny gust of wind & mars moves while your shooting heaps. I think I need to use a wider view EP such as my 5mm LV which should help with this. The 5mm barlowed will give me 640X ?? :scared: :scared2: I don't think I'll be able to pull it off @ that mag!? I need slewing on both axis, & a motorized focuser! (I'll give it a shot though) :D

John, What make camera, battery etc etc. Details please. Why? Because you may be able to make a 'Dummy' battery to fit in the camera, wired up to a larger battery & take longer shots. I did for my Canon SLR. Runs off 4 x AA's now, when used on my 'curved rod' barn door camera tracker. :D L.

I'm not going to worry too much about it Laurie. I always have a spare set of fully charged batteries ready if by chance I run out of juice half way through a shoot. Buying another set soon, then I'll have 3 sets in rotation.
